What's the largest wheel size that will fit a 55 88 2dr sedan?

I have had 845/15 on a 88 before, bias ply old style tires . Didn't rub on the front of my 1955 88 vert'. Backs will take a bigger tire and I have p235/60r/15's on there now, but they won't go on the fronts without rubbing. About the largest I have found for the fronts is 215/65r/15's and if I was to do it over I would just go with the215/65r/15's all the way around. My car sits low and you can't see the rears anyway so the extra width does me no good. Unless you show the car in a points type event I also would stay with radials. They ride and corner so much better' Hope that helps.... Tedd

Forgot to tell you when the radials were put on so were my chrome reverse wheels and the offset will be different on your stock wheels, also chromes are 8 inches wide in the rear and seven in the front,I may have given you bogus info.But I know 845's will fit on stock rims and still not rub...Tedd

Wheel size diameter would not be the issue, its the width and offset of the wheel plus the size of the tire that matters.

Just this past week there are some threads related to tire size which everyone has expressed opinions and links to different sites to get dimmensions that will help you out

Maybe I should have been more specific, This is not for a restored car. I am building a custom and plan to lower the car.

I am thinking 18" wheels? What width and offset will fit in the rear?

You are going to have to do some measuring to see how much room you have or may not have!!! I would suggest speaking with your local tire shop, I have used Discount since they started and they have been really helpful with letting me experiment with different tires and wheels.

This sight will give you an idea of different cross references for tire sizes old to new with some recommendations of wheel sizes for specific tires.
