1966 Olds Dynamic 88 'vert

Can someone help me decode this trim tag, please. I can't seem to find much online. Thank you!

Obviously, this is a 425 motor. I think it came with a white top. The interior is black though, but I'm not sure if it came that way.

I'll take a whack at it. Here's what I got so far:

-- Dynamic 88 2-dr. convertible (but you already knew that).
-- Assembled in South Gate, Ca. in the first week of December 1965.
-- Black cloth interior trim.

I'm having trouble reading the paint/top codes -- they look like numbers, but my book says they need to be letters. For instance, if the car was originally Trumpet Gold with a black top, the tag should read "G-A". I think. Maybe somebody will come along and shed some light on this for us. In the meantime can you confirm that the paint code reads "76"? That's what it looks like to me.

EDIT: Also, it came with factory air and PROBABLY a beige top. I found that out on here: www.datatagdecoder.com/beta/_ . Maybe you can fill in some of the letters/numbers that I can't read and try it yourself. See what you get and let us know.

BTW, beautiful car.

Beautiful car. Unfortunately, the angle of the trim tag photo makes it difficult to read.

Thanks guys. I finally had a chance to go out and look. The stamping is not good, but I'm pretty sure the PAINT says "T6".

The prior owner said it had an original white top.

I also think it was originally Trumpet Gold. I underside of the trunk lid was not painted and is gold.

The TRIM I'm pretty sure says 320-TOP6

Thanks for the link, but it's not working for me.

It does has factory air, which still blows cold. A couple things for me to do with this...repair a hydraulic fluid leak for the convertible top AND I need to diagnose the power rear window problems. A new dash pad would be nice too!

For 1966 the paint codes were letters, not numbers. "T" would indicate Sierra Mist Poly, which looks to be the color on the car. Beautiful car, by the way.

Ahh. Thank you so much. It's hard to find a sample of Sierra Mist Poly online. Cool, thank you.

I would think Sierra Mist would be more green than gold. That's the color of the sodapop cans, anyway.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. All the colors and descriptions for that seem to come back to a gold color though.

Jeez. To my (admittedly somewhat colorblind) eye, there isn't a lot of difference between Sierra Mist and Trumpet Gold. Or Champagne Mist, for that matter.

Thanks, Joe.

Unfortunately, the color chips loose a lot in the translation from original to photo to JPG to monitor. I've got real chip charts at home and there is a difference.

Very beautiful car. Please post some more pictures. Side views level would be nice. Pretty rare car being a Dynamic and a convertible. I've always liked them but I am bias seeing how I've got one stuffed in a building for 16 years. It had a bit of a title problem so I never bothered with it when I had ambition back when I was working. Now I retired I don't have any time. Ha ha. It was a Michigan notorious only titled non running car that the previous owner never did anything with. I finally got a title in my name last fall. I'm thinking of cannibalizing my turquoise 98 swapping drivetrains. Good luck with your Dynamic.

I'll get some pics this weekend and post 'em the engine compartment is really clean and the trunk in nice. I'd like to come across some nice door panels and a dash pad though if anyone knows of any.

The pump without a belt near the air conditioner, is it a smog pump?

Yup, I don't think I've ever bought a classic car here in Cali that has the smog pump system hooked up.

That's because they didn't come like that. The prior owner didn't have the correct paint. Hopefully I can get to that in the next few weeks. I have bought the correct decal to place on it after I paint it the way it should be painted.

Such CA emissions cars also used a longer oil filler tube like those used on the 1966 L69 cars.

Lovely car, by the way.

Pretty sure that while 65 and 66 dashes will interchange, there is a difference in how they "step down" in the center front, above the speedometer.

I took apart the rear windows and convertible pump motor. I replaced the left and right window motors and the convertible pump with new ones. They all work, but I found the rear pass side window is missing the actual channel for the automatic regulator. Very disappointing, but kinda use to it with this hobby.

At least the motors all work good.

Here's a pic of the left and right windows. I'm pointing to the left side that has the channel, which the right side does not.

Your convertible top was originally code 6 - "Beige" ...not white, but with age it probably looked like a dirty white top. Hope this helps, Dave

Only 5540 built. I like it and I'm bias to the D88 convertibles!

Thanks guys. Yeah, the beige top makes sense.

I received the window track from eBay and it was a perfect fit. I think it came off of an Impala. Not bad for eye balling a picture.

I installed the Windows this weekend and they work great. Fast too. Makes the front windows seem like they're taking forever.

One question...is there a Stop or Bumper that is supposed to be in the window guides to keep the window from extending too high? Not sure.

I know they have one when the Windows go all the way down.

Well, bad news guys. This was short lived. Dad has reached retirement age and is making plans to put his house on the market. I've been given notice that I have to move the cars I am storing over there (he has a lot of free space). This means I have to sell 2-cars and this Olds will be one of them. The other one will be a 67 Firebird 400 4-speed if you know any Pontiac folks. The Olds will be listed on eBay with no reserve unless someone makes me a fair offer. It must go and I have a deadline. I would love to just recover what I have in it. I realize I have to negotiate since everyone expects to pay less than what you ask. Therefore, I will ask $19k and as you can see I am certainly flexible.

Jeez, you're selling some nice cars! What are you keeping?

Best of luck -- I'd be interested, but I don't have a place to keep it either.

Well, I'm keeping my 70 F100 Ranger XLT SWB, 67 GTO, 65 Mustang...the timing is bad for the mustang. I'm about 75% through with it. It is a project that's been ongoing for almost 5 years. I have to finish it. Otherwise that one would've got the boot.
