New guy, old car....
Hello from Denton, TX!
I have a 1960 Olds Dynamic 88 4 door sedan with a 371 and a 2 bbl carb. We pretty much rescued this car from a junkyard after it had sat for over 20 years. It's running great now, though! As a Ford guy, I am still learning about the Olds products, so bear with me for awhile...lol.... Once I am authorized to post elsewhere, I have some questions about this car, and also a 394 skyrocket I'm trying to identify. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to hangin' here! Greg |

Ok, here's a couple of pics. First is when we got the car in May of 2008:
![]() We've replaced the floors, fixed the rusted fenders, replaced the entire rear tail panel between the taillights, and finally painted the car satin black. Not to mention all the mechanical stuff.... ![]() ![]() The car turned over 200 miles since "resurrection" today, I feel like that's a kind of milestone! Also, since I mentioned I was a Ford guy, I thought I'd post a pic. Hopefuly I won't get tossed off the forum for posting this.... ![]() |

Welcome to the best Olds site on the web!
![]() I am from SE Plano, about an hour from you. Great looking car - SURE GLAD you rescued it! Chrome is sharp for its age. I like the 88 - very different than the typical Olds models you see around. There is a big all-classic salvage yard in Denton that you need to find. I forgot the name but I can research it is you'd like me to. Very friendly but their stuff can be costly. They have a LOT. The Ford drag photo is cool; I have a Ford also but Olds is my fav... All you need to do is get a shot of your Olds haulin' down the strip! ![]()

That is a very cool car. I always thought the 60 88s were very herculian. I like that flat black. Is it a satin color or just black primer? Welcome to our site.

The classic salvage up this way is CTC auto ranch. The guy has some OK stuff, but his prices are outta sight.
For example, I needed a headlight trim ring. He had one. Smashed. $35 bucks. No thanks! Thought I'd grab a fender while I was there. Ge had one. Smashed. Rusty. $175 bucks. No thanks again! LOL...... As for the paint, it is in fact a real paint, urethane to be precise. I got it from TCP Global, and it was relatively inexpensive. Thanks again for the nice welcome, fellas! I needed a cruise servo bracket - just a metal bracket the size and shape of my hand - 48 bucks. No way... Dash was in pretty nice shape to start - why was this in a junk yard years ago??? Are you going with the same gold-colored paint on it? Looks like someone else is having some "interior fun" now!! ![]() ![]() Keep us all posted with your progress. I really enjoy seeing these old cars transformed into showroom beauties...

This car will never be a showroom beauty. But I think that it WILL be cool eventually!
The car has a funny story. The yard I got it from is a place that I have been going for parts for many years. This Olds was up by the entrance to the yard, along the main path to get back to the lot. I took notice of it every time I visited. Then one day I asked if it was for sale. No, it wasn't. A few months later, though, the guy changed his tune and we agreed on a price. I came back 30 minutes later with the trailer, and the rest is history. Speaking of history, the car belonged to the yard owner's uncle.... who died in the mid '80's. The car sat right where the uncle parked it for the next two decades! The brother of the uncle told a funny story about the olds.... One time it was being towed to a service station for repairs. Well, as it was tooling down the highway, it broke free from the wrecker! Amazingly, the car rolled to a stop on its own without hitting anything..... Unbelieveable. Nice! Greg |

Welcome Greg. The car is cool, looks sort of like Darth Vader.
The Bluesmobile lettering is neat, where did you get the "U", a Buhog? or from your Furd?![]() The Pontiac guys do ANTICOP and wonder why they get pulled over. ![]() |

The guy I bought the replacement tail panel from also gave me the letters from the donor car.
My brother converted an extra "O" into a "U" with his dremel tool and a buffer. It turned out pretty slick! Making the template for those letters was a major pain, but after we got the job done it was worth it. Now the car is unique, that'll come in handy I'm sure the first time I pull up beside another '60 Dynamic, right? LOL BTW, here's a pic of a 394 that I'm trying to get. The plan is to swap the 371 out and this 394 in it's place. It's a 4bbl, but apart from that I can only assume it is a 1963 model skyrocket. Can anyone identify what this engine is? It is in a 1961 Super 88 right now, but I don't think it is original to that car. ![]() |
