hi ,was wondering if anyone could give me an educated guess on what my car had for a gear ratio , this was the car i had 30 years ago , i am restoring one now ,it has 323 ratio right now ,not posi , i am going to have it put back to posi, and i want it to go as good as the one i had years ago , any way it would go 0 to 60 in about 6 or 7 seconds ,and it would not go over 100 miles per hour, and this is what i want again ,so if anyone could tell me what they think i had for gears ,would be very glad , thanks alot, will.

Standard 65-66 Starfire gearing was 3.23. 3.42 was the next hottest factory gearing, but I expect you could have gotten deeper if you knew how to check the boxes.
2.73, 2.93 and 3.08 were the other factory gear ratios. Sounds like you might have had 3.73 or so under there. My 64 with 3.42 has no trouble passing the century mark and then some, but the 66 I had 30 years ago with 3.23 would also not get much past 100. ![]()

As already said a non AC car would most likely have 3:23 gears while an AC car would most likely have 3:08 gears.....you cannot tell what gear you have or had because of maximum speed....A lot of other things would come into play including engine tune at that time and carburator condition, etc, etc, etc. I had a 66 Delta with 3:23's that would bury the needle but who knows how fast the car was really going?....I believe 3:42 gear was the most you could get from Olds, however the rear used in 65 was really a Pontiac unit and more aggressive ratios I believe could be had from Pontiac for the full size cars.
