the type O is just as strong as the corporate 8.5 and the axles are held in with 4 bolt flanges at the backing plate so NO C clips to fail. The only BAD thing about the type O is parts are a bitch to get as they were only used from 1968-1970 then they went to the corporate 8.5 rear end. I have everything for an 8.5 corporate posi including new 3:42 gears and the install kit posi unit and pinion depth tool but am having a hard time finding a decent 71-71 cutlass corporate housing so i am going to sell all the parts. I just wanted to build up a spare rear end as i have a type O with 3:23 posi and wanted to step up to the 3:42s.

Hello. I have an axle delima. My 64 olds jetstar 88 has a bent axle, and after hours of research so far, not one has come into focus. PLEASE HELP-ANYONE! It is the smaller, weaker original jetstar 88 axle, which apparently also has weak bearings. Anyone got an axle shaft for sale, I'm interested. This one is 28 spline, 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern, in the original olds 10 bolt. This is quickly becoming the biggest problem so far with this thing, but old olds are great because they are different.
