Only way to know for sure is to find the number stamped on the drop out housing. It is a one digit number, with an S in the front if it is posi. It's on the front of the housing, between the bolt holes, on the passenger side.

rear end

Should be a 9 3/8 drop out. 57-64 pontiac / Olds gasser rear we call it. 12 bolts on the ring gear 13 yoke spline 31 spline axles. If you have some pictures of the drop out section (front of it and rear pic too) we can I D it for you. Just to be absolutely sure. Jim

'58 were 28 splines, '62 were 31. I don't know what year they made the change.

Straight from a '59 manual I have.. I suppose it applies to '57 - '64.Numbers stamped on the drop out..6 = 3.64...8 = 3.42...9 = 3.23..0 = 3.08...If the letter "L" follows any of these numbers, it designates the posi rear... I found these i.d. numbers accurate for '57 and '59 Oldsmobiles I have
