1980&1985 RearS....Same?

I was just wondering if The rear end gears and axle sizes are identical between a 1980 delta88 royale 307 and a 1985 delta88 Royale 307.

Since they messed with heads in 85, and changed from th350s to 200 c s, I was wondering if they effed with the rear ends too.

I think I am going to dissect my 1980 Olds this winter and decide what to keep and what to scrap on it. I have an 80 and two 1985's 2 of which have 145000+ miles on them and the other with a cracked frame...Ugh....

I wish I could just go to the dealership and order another new one.
Damn GM and their new styles to hell

I know the 85 has a 241:1 ratio because I shredded my pinion gear once already and spent 3 days cleaning it out and putting the new parts in.

I think you might mean 2.41:1 With 241:1 you would be shredding more than gears!

rear end sizes

I think your looking for size not gear ratio???yes? There are 7.5 ansd 8.5 ring gear rear diffs.

8.5 is a 10 bolt perfectly round cover with triangular casting at 5 and 7 o'clock.

the 7.5 is not quit round and is much smaller cover.

Here is a picture of the 8.5 and 7.5 Jim
