Hey Monzaz, if you could give us a rundown on different Olds rear ends that would be AWSOME! Include a couple of websites so we can do some reading too. I am definitely a NOOB when it comes to rear ends.

rear info.
Well I just about wrote a small book on the olds rear from 1957-1996 and it was all deleted upon a pm . How did that happen? I will give it a shot again tomorrow evening. Have a cold and tired. Talk tomorrow.
Here are some links to pass the time. http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofdif.htm#Differentials http://www.oldsmobility.com/reardiffs.htm Jim |

Compose it in your favorite word processor, save it, then log in, and "cut & paste" it into your post.

That happens to me sometimes too. I think the server times out. Norm has the best idea to save all that data.

rear diff links
Yah I know. Some of the stuff i read was a bit off but I am not into starting with other sites...lol. Like the info on the 12 bolt olds stuff. people list it as 8.5 8.4 etc. Those diameter measurement mess up alot of people. The ring gear bolt pattern , ring gear bolt size and inner diameter make all the difference . Then there is the pinion shaft diameters.
The 8.2 10 bolt stuff really messes everyone up. 1965-1966? maybe 67 (which should be 12 bolt olds rear) But again all depends on date coding. 65-66 use the same gears as 1964-1972 pontiac gears and buick 1965 1966 too. 1.438 pinion shaft and 8.2 ring gear with 3/8 right hand fine thread bolts. In 1968 most 8.2 rears went to 7/16 bolt left hand threrad. 12 bolt olds was 7/16 left hand thread and buick 8.2 which again has its own ring and pinion and does not even have support from any aftermarket source. At least the 12 bolt olds ' O ' type a-body rear does have Richmonds 3 gears sets to choose from. I will try to compose something...but might as well put that on my own site. lol I am working on it everytime I get my nephew off from college. He designed the site in his spare time. I will do my best with the info. In the mean time please if you have any specific question ask away. Jim |
