Question 10 Bolt Posi Availability

Hi guys,

I just purchase a '71 rag top and the engine has been completely balanced and blueprinted . Super strong and sitting at what I've been told is around 360 hp.

THe rearend in this girl is just the stock NON-posi unit.

Are the posi-units for the 10 bolt rearends a common find ?

Brent

Yes. Detroit locker, true trak and eaton have the posi for the 10 bolt. I would go with a 9 inch rear instead which will allow you to have more splines say 35 instead of 28. By the time you have the posi unit axles bearings etc.. you'll be close in price to a 9 inch diff.

If you still want the 10 bolt cause thats what it came with than make sure
you dont have a lot of power and traction. 305rwhp with drag radials will kill a 10 bolt over time. Look the currie's website or Strange

10 bolt strength

DO NOT scrap that 10 bolt. It is very strong. It is a 8.5 10 bolt if it is a original 1971 1972 rear. BUILD it. I can make it hold to what ever you want to throw at it.

You can keep the car origianal and still have your strength.

I do all GM diffs .... Buicks also cam with these 8.5 rears in 1971 1972... they still use these diffs in the trucks today. TONS of great parts. If they were so weak why are they still going. Same guts as a GN rear too. We can upgrade the splines up to 33 spline even though 30 will more tan do the job for your requirements. I have guys that take these rears to the 9's

Just PM me for a price quote...
