What is the difference between "O" type SE & S6?

Yes I know they are different numbers/letters.

1969 O type rear with a S6 rear 3:23 is " standard type w/JL2(Power Disc Brakes)
and the SE rear 3:23 is standard type with No Power Disc Brakes.

So my question is what's the difference? Internal - External?

Keep in mind that the code refers to the entire axle assembly, not just the gears. The only thing I can imagine that is different for power disc vs. no power disc is the size of the rear wheel cylinders on the backing plates.

SE = 3.23:1 open differential with drum brakes (power or no power).

S6 = 3.23:1 open differential with the power disc brake option.

Randy C.

PS: The 3.23:1 anti-spin differential with drum brakes (power or no power) is coded SF, and the same differential with power disc brakes is coded S7.

The OP stated that in the first post. He's asking what the physical difference is between these two open 3.23 axles.
