Question Painting Info.

Hey olds world I have a problem, I'm about to paint my 1972 oldsmobile cutlass but I don't know how the car should look the colors are 50 57 which is stamped on the cowl tag. I know the two colors which is covert beige and baroque gold but is this car just a two tone color with one color 50 on bottom and 57 on top if so where does the two color meet, or was their some kind of strips down the hood and trunk can someone help????

I don't recal stripes on the Cutlass unless they were dealer added or customer added.

So lets say two colors meeting on the body lines, I heard that the 442 was an opion in 1972, why does my car have a sticker in the glove compartment which shows the opions on the car and it says F85 4-4-2. and other things like tire presure stuff. What does this mean?

i doubt its a stripe thing

my guess -- the body is covert beige and the top is the baroque gold. the darker color, the baroque gold, would be where the vinyl top is

but this is just my guess so i'd check around before you paint

good luck -- sounds like a nice car

I think what mapearso meant was, where the dividing line WOULD BE if there were a vinyl top is where the colors would meet. There should be a stainless strip there at any rate showing the demarcation between the colors. It is the obvious seperation between the "top" of the car and the body. This is the only place I have seen two colors meet on the early seventies Cutlass bodies. There is a reference elsewhere on this site about subscribing to the Oldsmobile Museum Society of something like that. I am sorry but I have terrible memory and I know that isn't the correct term. You might do a search on the word "Lansing" which is where I believe it is located. Anyway, once you have paid a membership you can send them a VIN and they will give you every tidbit of information about that car, info that was on ther build sheet, etc. I think but don't qoute me on this that Texasred made that reference so you might search all his posts as well. Good luck.
