new guy with a cutlass

hi there,
i own a 70 cutlass supreme, but i am having a hard time decoding the body tags, i cannot find any information that has any of the codes from my body tag, i am also looking to find out if there is any way to determine what engine/tranny my car came with. it is a factory clutch car, but im not sure whether it came with a three or four speed. any help would be appreciated. thanks

I can decode the body tag if you post the information on it. As far as the factory engine and transmission, I don't have any information to tell if they are original. All I can do is decode the engine and transmission codes.

This is what I have for you:
The 70 after the ST means that it is a 1970
The next digit 3 = Oldsmobile
The next two 42 = Cutlass Supreme V8
The next two 57 = 2 door coupe
The B = that it was assembled in Baltimore, MD
The 07778 = the unit number
The 979 = the trim number. The 979 corresponds to a Saddle color for the seats as well as identifying them as bucket vinyl.
The B8G = the Seat type however i can not find a match for this
The 50 = your body color and the F means that it has a vinyl roof, if i am correct.
I am not sure what the last string of numbers means

That isn't what the number would tell you. All I can give you is what the reference books tell me and the B means Baltimore, MD

The only thing that I can add is that the "03A" is the build date, which was the first week of March. And the car was indeed built in Fremont, CA. The body color "50" is labeled "Bamboo."

Again from the research I did it says that it was built in baltimore. Only F85 versions were built in Fermont, CA. Check your VIN number, if the 2nd and 3rd digit are 31 or 32 then it is a F85 and then the 7th number would have to be a BF instead of B. I am guessing your VIN looks like this 342570B07778, there may be a 1 right after the B and then the 07778. If one of these is your VIN then it was built in Baltimore, MD. not Fermont, CA
