Hello,

I am John, 48 years old (or young?) and I've just bought my first classic American car. Although I was looking for the more obvious candidates like Mustang, Firebird, Camaro and even an AMC Javelin, I came across a beautiful original 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I just couldn't resist.

I haven't had the time to take many pictures, but you get an idea from the ones I include.

Th VIN gives me the following information:

3 = Oldsmobile (well that's obvious)
J = Cutlass Supreme
57 = 2 door hardtop
K = 350 cui, 4bbl, 180 hp
2 = 1972
M = Lansing, MI

The Olds has been in Holland from the beginning. I am the third owner. The previous owners were very meticulous in caring for the car and they kept it virtually untouched. The only modifications are Koni shocks, an upgraded radiator en a custom made exhaust system, which alone cost about 2500 Euros. It gives the car a brutish sound when starting and accelerating, but with manageable sound levels when cruising at about 65-70 miles per hour.

So far I have only received positive reactions. Some people say it has all to do with a midlife crisis, but hey, I wish I had had a crisis like there much earlier!!

I'm a very happy bunny, and I intend to keep the car in its present near pristine condition. Only the vinyl top gives me some concern. But that will be dealt with in the future.

I will be keeping you informed on the good and the not so good and I promise I will be posting some additional pics.

Cool! The vinyl top looks to be in good condition. As long as you keep it clean and don't drive it in inclement weather it should repel water and rust for years to come. Awsome car!

Welcome! I think you made the right decision, much better car than your other choices in my opinion. Looks really clean, they did take good care of it, now it's your turn. It is much better to get a car all complete and in good condition than to try to restore one, especially there, parts are a little harder to find. I noticed the optional front bumper guards, does it have them on the rear too? I guess we'll find out with more pics and info...you promised.

Hi, I have been driving the Cutlass for the last couple of weekends. He (it definately is a he!!) has not missed a beat. Driving is a pure joy, cruising at 75mph all day is not a problem, although I usually hold it around 65mph. It is very relaxing. The exhaust note is terrific when starting up and under acceleration. You really gets noticed!! I have done about 300 miles and every mile has been thoroughly enjoyable.

Man... that interior is as nice as the body, looking good. You can tell that car was taken care of and not messed with much. The seat belts look like an aftermarket item, easy enough to fix if you want all original. Now the engine paint looks more like a Caterpillar bulldozer color than gold, nice and clean though. I would suggest that you get a center hangar clamp for the upper radiator hose. The fan blade will get real close or go right through that hose on mine when it heats and the water flows, sags down if that clamp isn't there. I made one out of flat steel stock, paint it and it looks just like the plastic one and doesn't break. Just make sure it is bigger to allow for expansion and all the edges are smooth so it doesn't cut the hose.
A weekend with a few parts and spray bombs and that engine bay would look factory original. I attached a pic of mine so you can see where the clamp goes, and the gold color.

Welcome to our site. I have always liked the color green on a car. The combo on your car green with white interior is very nice. If you need any parts don't hesitate to post here as we have lots of resources. People have extra items for sale every day, I bet somebody has the hot-air-pipe just lying around in their garage.
