MPG?

Does anyone know how many MPG a 1970 Cutlass S with the 455 engine gets? I would be fine with a ballpark number.

Thanks.

Maybe 12 miles per gallon. You can't worry about it when you are driving that car! Drive the chevette when you need to save money.

Damn! That is ridiculous. I barely got the gas gauge fixed but I thought it was not working right!

free gasoline
We are concerned enough since it is creeping up on $4.00 / gallon.

Yeah right, free gasoline. Ha ha.

As I understand it, most of the price is in taxes because many E.U. governments do not have income tax as we do so they have to take taxes in other ways. I should have paid more attention to that kind of stuff in school.

I don't know about European income taxes, but you're correct, the high price of gas in Europe is due to self-imposed taxes. The price of a barrel of oil is the same there and here.

hehe yes the price of gas in sweden is mostly taxes. but we have the highest taxes in the world exept denmark who has 1% more...

the income tax is 32% of salery in my "state" + 25% company tax ..= 52% tax of income

but then if u make more then 4000dollars a month the excess of that amount is taxed over 80%!!!

whats your income tax in the usa how bad are u taxed?

I think max is 33% but our income tax system is so complex with so many caveats that I couldn't begin to explain them all IF I understood them. It seems hopeless sometimes.

It depends on what you make, the more you make, the more they take.

My W-4 is listed as "Married, same as Single" so my tax rate is higher.

23% plus $$$ if I make under $1533 a week, but 28% plus $210 if I make more than the $1533, so with all my medical and 401k and stuff I lose close to 60% if I work more than 25 hours of OT in a week, so I don't work that much.

All this info is ava on the IRS web site, it's called "Publication 15"

I owed taxes this year, again. They will not even send you the stimulus check if you owe so I won't even see it. If it overpays, oh well, the Government will be more than happy to keep it for a while, and use it, and maybe when they feel like it they will send the excess to you.

Yes, I spoke with one of our lovable, friendly IRS representatives last night about that. If you didn't request it by direct deposit or other means then it will come in July as a paper check. I replied "I didn't request anything ever", he clarified "when you directed payment of your refund on your 2007 tax forms". In turn I replied "I haven't had a refund in fifteen years or more". Sheesh!. Also, if you have an outstanding student loan they will not send you a check, but keep it towards payment. I know this because both my kids have loans.

Hehe... When I was in Sweden 10 years ago, gas was 1.00USD per liter. I said that was crazy and that it would never fly over here!
Look where we are now - I never imagined it would be true...

Sweden has very high taxes there, but from my understanding, their government takes care of their people from the cradle to the grave. Excellent government healthcare, retirement plans, etc. They get their taxes back in the end.

The thing I did not like when there was the sheer lack of cool old American cars! I am sure glad to see some Swedes here who own some!
