1971 cutlass, how do i find out what model it is.

Hello,

Sorry to sound like a newb, but i bought a 1971 cutlass a while back because i really liked the look. but now i am interested in finding out what model it is, s, sx ect. anyway, can i find this out by the vin? are there any key characteristics that i can look for? i know it has an original 455 engine. i am not home right now so i cant get the vin, but if i get it can someone help me out or something? thanks a lot

Those are both good links, but keep in mind that option packages (and prior to 1972, even the engine code) do not show up in the VIN. The SX was an option package, as was the 442 in 64-67 and 72-on.
