Saved From Being Dirt Tracked!!!!!!

When I stopped and asked about this 87 Cutlass, the owner said his neighbor(who is a dirt track racer) was planning on buying it. I told him I hate to see it destroyed and he agreed with me. I offered him $100 bucks more than his neighbors offer of $250. HE TOOK IT!! The original 3.8 V-6 was locked up and all 4 tires had been slashed. I also bought another 87 Cutlass that had engine fire for $120 bucks. It has posi rear, factory tach dash and chrome ralleys. I changed motor mounts and installed a 305 from a Malibu that I painted body color. I put in a Crane cam, double roller timing chain, factory aluminum intake from a Monte SS I used to own, quadra jet that has had some TRICKS done to it, 50,000 volt coil and matching module,8mm wires, turbo 350 trans with transpac. I have built and modified MANY G-Bodies over the years and love to drag race my 87 Grand National. I am shooting for low 15's in the 1/4 with the Cutlass and want it to look like a stock GRANDMAS CAR on the outside! I have a 350 in my garage that will get installed later when I rebuild it. Whatcha think of my save and progress so far?

Sounds like a cool car for such a low investment! Too nice to trash on a dirt track

Savin' the olds.

Congrats on the deal. Motors can always be changed, but when you run down the track, everyone will still see an Olds. 10 years ago, I paid $200.00 for a beater too. I fixed it up while I drove it, and look at it now. (see att) Actually, that pic was last year, I'm doin' a full frame off this year. Carry on, and have fun. You've saved an Olds nameplate, and that's all that matters for now. Just don't sell it to your seller's nieghbour when you're done. LOL.
Jim.

Good work and a clean looking engine and engine bay. I do hope it gets an Olds motor some day though....
