78 cutlass
i just picked up a 78 cutlass supreme brougham with 55xxx original miles and it has a 2bbl 260 olds. i was wondering wat i can do to the 260 or if i should put a 350 in it and how easy does a 350 go in, motor mounts?

ah go for broke...get a 455. Seriously that 260 is a great little reliable motor. If it runs with that low miles I would sit on it in the event you pop the one you put in it. That way you can still enjoy the car while rebilding the powerplant.
Go 350 for sure. There are plenty to be had if you look in the right places. I am collecting every one I can get. 455's are out there too, just have to look harder, and be willing to travel. have FUN! John |

78 Cutlass
Hi, and welcome. The easiest swap would be the 350 OLDS engine, not a chev. It will bolt right in and hook up to everything the 260 was hooked up to. I did the swap with my 80. The 455 would be nicer for power, but involves more work to put one in, (a/c box too close, etc.) Verify the tranny, you'll want a 350 turbo, look for an engine/tranny combo. The vinyl top can be removed, but will need a fair amount of prep to remove the adhesive. you will also need to get side drip-edge, and rear glass mouldings. I hope this helps. Jim.
