1979 Olds Engine ID
Tell me the 5th digit in your VIN and I'll tell you what it is or what it came with from the factory.

The engine that I have in my Cutlass right now is not the same engine that came in the car. Is there another way that I can tell what kind of motor I have without breaking the motor down?

79 cutlass
Ok. next step is to identify the make of the motor. Is there an oil fill tube sticking up out of the front of the engine? (oldsmobile) Is the distributor cap poking out of the front of the engine kind of diagonally? Like some one forgot it and just stuck it there? (buick) If neither then its a chevy. Take a look then get back me, us, or whoever. And give me the fifth VIN digit anyway.
