1972 Trunk Pops Open
The trunk on my 72 convertible constantly pops open while driving the car (3 times in 50 miles today). The latch in the lid strikes the rear edge of the receiver, and the receiver is shimmed all the way toward the rear of the car.
Any ideas? It is assumed to be an after market lid, because there are no holes for the OLDSMOBILE letters across the lid. I did buy the electric opener and installed it a while back. It is NOT the electric opener activating. I drove it with it disconnected.
It seems like the upper latch must be too far to the rear. I can think of no reason other than the lid is made incorrectly.

Can you try closing the lid and verifying the latch is fully engaged? Maybe use the key to "feel" if the latch is all the way engaged, or possibly even get into the trunk with a flashlight and look at the mechanism while the lid is closed.

Good idea about being in the trunk. I will check that.
Mine is a 1972 Supreme Convertible. Since it doesn't have the letters, I figured that the lid was replaced. My understanding is that aftermarket lids do not have the holes.
