Head Gasket question for a 1936 HK Huber Tractor

I am working on a 1936 Huber tractor. It ran 5 years ago but 3 years ago we found it had a stuck cylinder. We filled that cylinder with ATF and never looked at it agin till today. I got it to my house and want to take the head off. Head gaskets are not available anywhere I can find. My grandfather said last time he had it off he had to reuse the head gasket. Is copper spray going to be good enough to reseal a gasket? I hope it is a copper head gasket. If it is what do I do to reseal a copper head gasket? The max RPM is 1150 but I have no idea wat kind of pressure this engine has.

Look around the engine for a data plate.
The engine is probably from an industrial engine manufacturer, (LeRoi, Continental , Waukesha, Buda, etc.)
Knowing that and the engine model may make the search much easier.

Eric, see if one from a Hoyt Clagwell might work.

If it is flat copper sheet, you might be able to have one cut on a cnc plasma cutter using the old one as a pattern.

If so, make a few and corner the market!

re-using by means of cleaning and applying copper spray is another alternative for low compression industrial engines.

Or, have Lisa Douglas cut out some hotscakes with the cookie cutter and use the remaining rectangle with holes as a gasket.

There is no way I can reuse this head gasket. I am told there is none available. Now what? I joined a vintage tractor forum. Maybe they will have something?

After doing a little Goggle research , I believe you may have a Waukesha CHK engine .
http://www.farmcollector.com/company....aspx?PageId=2
Check the bore and stroke if the head is off , it should measure 5 & 1/8 by 6 & 1/4.

Here are a couple of sources :

Gerald Lettieri
132 Old Main St.
Rocky Hill, CT 06067
203-529-7177

He deals in obsolete gaskets for antique cars and other vehicles.

Molina Gaskets
23126 Mariposa Ave.
Torrance, CA 90502
213-539-1883

They custom make copper and asbestos head gaskets.

Hope this helps.

I got the piston out today. The rings will be fine to reuse. Going to take lots of cleaning. I had to take the screen off the oil pump and clean it and the oil filter center tube was almost rusted shut. I think I have found all the trouble areas. Now just to clean it all up and put it back together. My uncle is looking but he thinks my Grandfather has picked up a new head gasket for it in the past couple years. I am trying to fix this without my grandfather finding out. He just broke his hip a couple weeks ago and will be back home in the next two weeks. He has mowed my grass for the past three years while I was dealing Oldsmobiles and restoring my W-30. Now that the car is done I wanted to get this done to repay him.

The last Waukesha I worked on was about 18 years on a 1855 Oliver that had head gasket issues.

I am more of Ford, Allis Chalmers, Shibura, Deutz and Kubota diesel expert. Along with small engines Briggs, Tecumseh and Honda.

Great Eric! Make sure that you still use the copper coat on it. Hopefully that will have the Torque specs. also.

I ended up having to pull the plugs and squirt a very small amount of gas into the cylinders and it fired up. I did not get the first start on video but here is the second time starting it.

Excellent job Eric! I was watching the video and was cringing when you had two hands on the crank handle, closed hands. I hope that bugger does not kick back on you.

I did not have them locked together. When it kicks back it just blows right through your hands. You just have to be sure your leg is not in the path of the crank. It takes so much to crank you have to grip it very hard. Have to always pull up and never down or it would take your head off.
