Fun packed weekend Reno, Carson, Virgins City

The wife and I finally got a weekend free. We are care takers for her mother who is 92 and seldom do we get a weekend off together, but we managed to get some help from some other family members and off we went.
Day One
Grand kid was playing baseball Friday in Reno so we hustled and got up at 4:30 and beat feet to Reno. Watched a game in 101 degree heat, good game but they lost. Dinner with son and step daughter gambling and drinks till late.

Day Two

Carson city, Motor Cops competition. Cops have to drive big full dress motorcycles through a tight course full of pylons with out knocking any over, timed event, fun as hell. Contestants from San Francisco Alameda Oakland Carson City and Las Vegas. They were serious we were hecklers.

More too follow....Tedd

Second half Day Two

Fast draw contest .Draw and poke your pistol at a screen and it registers your time. I was somewhat disappointed being one who likes smoke noise and fire but the costumes were fun. They weren't very good... Tedd

Day two and three fourths

And finally a few cars that caught my eye at the Carson show .I've never shown a car in this area so all these cars were new to me. We left the Mistress at home because of the oppressive heat (no AC)so no pictures of our car, but there were two fine 38 Oldsmobile's made my favorite list.a Auburn, La Salle and a very nice Buick fills out my best of five.

Then on to Virgina City...Tedd

Getting towards dark in Virginia Ciy

Virginia City is one of those historic places that one has to just see just for the architecture, beer and ladies of the night, we were early for the ladies so that left beer and old buildings to gawk at. Here are a few of the buildings.

The next day was spent driving around Lake Tahoe then home. I'm to old to do this much in this short of time, but I probably will again....Tedd

We get to go there August 22-29 (staying at south shore Lake Tahoe) and are looking forward to it. My new wife will be with me and she has never seen any of these places. We'll also have our 7-year old granddaughter with us so we will be looking for fun things for her to do as well (tubing the Truckee if there's enough water, horse trail rides, etc.). The rail museum in Carson City is also a neat place to visit. And, if we are lucky, there will be a car show in Gardnerville the day we arrive so we need to plan to arrive early! It's always a lot of fun in the Reno-Tahoe-Virginia City area!

I used to go there years ago. Haven't been back in a coon's age.

Not really all it was cracked up to be, to be honest...

No water in the Truckee river near Kings beach this year, drought got it all. You might try a visit to the Carson City Mint museum, it always good for a couple hours of history.

There is a car show somewhere in the Reno, Tahoe /Carson area all summer, you should find one near your travel area. Hot August Nights will be coming up soon, you might plan on catching that it is a happening like no other car show....Have a fun time ....Tedd

I grew up in the Reno/Carson area and lived there after I retired from the navy. There are numerous "show and shine" events all over the area, poker runs are lots of fun, especially around the "lake" area. If you are going to Reno, check out the show and shine at the Bonanza, Baldini's, A&W on Wednesday nites and of course Hot August Nites. During HAN(for those of you not from that area) Virginia street, Victoria in Sparks, Peppermil, GSR, Atlantis have great events. Not pushing those casinos but they do a pretty good job of getting lots of cars out on display. I live in Michigan now, Flint area and there are lots of car events around this area(still miss Nevada tho).
