Songs that mention Oldsmobiles

So I was bored and started thinking about all the songs that talk about lame Mustangs and whatnot, and I found myself wondering what songs mention Oldsmobiles. I knew one offhand, from Atmosphere's Always Coming Back Home to You,

"A car pulled up, a fixed up cutlass
A woman and a child climbed out and left it running
They went inside of the deli, placed an order
With the extra dollar fifty bottled water cause the daughters picky
When they came out mommy gave me a glance
That said man can love an angel but he's got to take the chance
Already knew the deal, I lit one up and walk
So they got back in the Oldsmobile, belted up, and took off"
Anybody else have any? I know I've heard some. Have fun searching

Jerry was a race car driver
And he drove so goddamned fast
He never did win no checkered flag
But he never did come in last
Jerry was a race car driver
He'd say "El solo number one"
With a bocephus sticker
On his 442 he'd light 'em up
Just for fun
Brian Adams
I'm ridin' in the back seat - nine years old
Starin' out the window countin' the highway poles
And then I get to thinkin' - that it don't seem real
I'm flyin' through the universe in a '69 oldsmobile

Ah yes Les Claypool is my idol... I never noticed that in that song though.

I did remember seeing a '63 Dynamic 88 vert in Shawn Mullins' Lullaby video, through most of it.

I also saw a flash of a commercial where Justin "needs-to-choke" Bieber is getting into an Olds. Only caught a glimpse of it, and that is the only thing he has going for him.

Though neither of those are about Olds, they do have one on film, and that's a plus

My daddy bought this car before I was born
Sure like the radio, I love the horn
I love the great big shiney steering wheel
Here in my daddy's Oldsmobile

Four kids can sure fill up a big back seat
They said they'd stop and get us something sweet
Now momma says "Let's pray for one good meal"
Here in my daddy's Oldsmobile

Momma kisses us goodnight
Daddy reads the paper by the dashboard lights
Crushes out his cigatette
Says "Don't cry honey, we ain't beaten yet."

Another morning and we're up and gone
Daddy says there's work in San Antoine
Two days of drivin' it ain't no big deal
Here in my daddy's Oldsmobile

Refrain

Momma kisses us goodnight
Daddy reads the paper by the dashboard lights
Crushes out his cigarette
Says "Don't cry honey, we ain't beat yet

My daddy bought this car before I was born
Sure love the radio, I love the horn
I love the great big shiney steering wheel
Here in my daddy's Oldsmobile
Here in my daddy's Oldsmobile

"Rocket Man" by Elton John.
I like the Shatner version a lot better.
Stewie Griffin of "Family Guy" does a nice Shatner tribute version too.
He's your guy 442much, a duet with your other guy, Alex Trebek, would be golden.

My uncle went to school with Shatner. Apparently he couldn't sing then, either

Got a couple buddies, tied me up and threw me in his Oldsmobile..."

Delbert McClinton, "Every Time I Roll the Dice"

"But that night he banked that curve just a little too hard and that 442 went airborne, Hit a telephone pole and split in two.

Everyone said that when the ambulance came, the paramedics could hear "Free Bird" still playing on the stereo"

For the big car guys - You're Gonna Get Yours - Public Enemy

Ooh Chuck, they outta get us man
Yo, we gotta dust these boys off

In this corner with the 98
Subject of suckers - object of hate
Who's the one some think is great
I'm that one - son of a gun
Drivin' by - wavin' my fist
Makin' 'em mad when I'm goin' like this
Top gun - never on the run
They know not to come cause they all get some
Goin' quicker in the speedin' lane
Jealous can't do it and it's causin' them pain

Caught in my smoke - all they did was choke
Look at my spokes - you know I'm no joke
Out that window - middle finger for all
Jealous at my ride, stereo and blackwalls
Suckers they got the nerve and gall
To talk 'bout the car when they're walkin' tall

Chorus:
Suckers to tha side
I know you hate my 98
You gonna get yours (x2)

Pullin' away - every day
Leavin' you in the dust
So you know I get paid - on the mile ego trip
And 5-o tailin' on my tip
Watch me burn rubber - fall in my flame
This episode is always the same
Seein' no comp comin' like I'm blind
All left back - trailin' my behind
I go faster cops try to shoot me
They'll get theirs when they try to get me
I'll let it go - my turbo
Run, I'm in the river cause they're movin' too slow
Laughin' hard at their attempt
So what if the judge charged me contempt
I'd run my Boomerang - 'cause I'm feelin' proud
And I wouldn't even hear them cause my radio's loud

Chorus (x2)

Cruisin' down the boulevard
I treated like some superstar
You know the time so don't look hard
Get with it - the ultimate homeboy car
All you suckers in the other ride
Wherever I'm comin' get you my side
My 98 is tough to chase
If you're on my tail - better watch your face
Smoke is comin' when I burn
Rubber when my wheels turn
A tinted window - so super bad
Lookin' like the car the Green Hornet had
It's the reason I'm ahead of the pack
It's the reason I left them back
It's the reason all the people say
My 98-O blows 'em all away

My 98 Oldsmobile is...
My 98 Oldsmobile's so...
My 98 Oldsmobile is...
My 98 Oldsmobile's like...

Chorus (x2)

Understand - I don't drive drunk
My 98's fly - I don't drive no junk
No cop gotta a right to call me a punk
Take this ticket - go to hell and stick it
Put me on a kick butt - line up, times up
This government needs a tune up
I don't know what's happenin' - what's up
Gun in my chest - I'm under arrest
Sidewalk suckers wanted to spill me
So I got my crew and posse
Took their girls and got them to thrill me
Stepped outside - got in my ride
Drove them around an' I looked around town
Caught 'em out there cold - ran 'em over and down
They didn't get me and that's the truth
Cause the 98-O is bullet proof

My 98 Oldsmobile's so...
My 98 Oldsmobile is...
My 98 Oldsmobile's so...
My 98 Oldsmobile's like...

I hear the motor running
Burning up the road
Tail-pipes-a-draggin'
Fire in the smoke
And I say "Hell yeah!!"
I say "Hell yeah!!"
Ooh she's a monster
Take me on home
This ain't no joyride
Do you wanna go?
This ain't your Daddy's Oldsmobile, no!

Glad I could help. Sung by Jerry Lee Lewis aka "The Killer" who in my opinion is probably the most talented of the original rock and rollers and I am a big Elvis fan. He was also one of the craziest. It is a miracle he is still alive. Unfortunately I never saw him perform in person. Here is a link with his wiki page.

Rocket Man? I don't get the connection unless you are saying cause the term "Rocket" applied to the Old's engines.........but that is too much of a stretch for me. There are lots of songs with the word rocket in them.

Any so my picks are:
-Detroit 442, by Blondie
-Oldsmobile, by Memphis in the Meantime
-USS Zydek Oldsmobile, by Jimmy Buffet
-Oldsmobile, by Misty Weaver
-Red69Oldsmobile, by Howard Livingston
-In My Merry Oldsmobile, by Jo Stafford
-This is your Daddy's Oldsmobile, by Ray Stevens
-Jesus Drives an Oldsmobile, by Doug DeJoe and the Bloomlaters
-Oldmobile 442, by True Stories
-In My Brand New Oldsmobile, by the Auto Towners
-Rocking Oldsmobile, by Johnny Hootrock
-Working for an Oldsmobile, by Rick Kockan

Truth be told I really don't like most of these (make that all) songs.

When the sun comes up Mama's singing "Ain't no cane on the Brazos"
The sun goes down she's moved onto "Rise up poor Lazarus"
Daddy comes in in a gaberdine suite says "Go fire up the Rocket"
He throws me the keys to the 88 and slips some dice in his pocket

chorus: Shakin' them bones
Shakin' them bones
Shakin' them bones
Ah baby needs a new pair of shoes........

Song: Bones
Artist/Songwriter: Ray Wylie Hubbard
Album: Growl 2002

I'm surprised nobody mentioned "442 Glenwood Avenue". The song actually is sung "Four Forty Two, Glenwood Avenue"
Now, that "Forty" part makes me cringe when someone "SAYS" it, but it kinda flows in the song. It was from the '60s but I don't know the artist.

Interesting. I remember the song weil but do not remember the artist. I am pretty sure it predated the 442 by about a year.

"Endless Summer" by Aaron Lewis

In the mornin' on a Saturday
I got my girls and we're skippin' town
In my '67 442 got the rag top down
Aldean's on the radio
Ain't it funny how they sing along
Makes you smile just a little bit
Because it's not a Miley Cyrus song

Yes, I know the thread's 2 years old. No, I don't care.

Super 88 - Link Wray is, in my mind, BY FAR THE BEST OLDSMOBILE SONG.
