My new 73 salon

Hi, I'm new at this so bear with me. I recently purchased a 1973 Cutlass Salon. It is almost identical to a 73 Salon I had 25 years ago, that my wife totaled. Same color, interior, and engine. This one has 48K miles, old one had 42K when smashed. It's like going back in time. The first Olds was my first "nice" car. Had it about 10 yrs. Always told my wife, if I could find another one like it, I'd buy it. An older gentleman in Montana owned this car for the last 30 yrs. Enough of history, my question is where is a good place to find parts if I need them. The 73 Salon was the only year they made the four door, and most parts are for 67-72 Cutlass. Also, if I'm not mistaken the Salon is a Supreme with the Salon package, it's not a Cutlass "S". Thanks

73 Salon
This is a good place to post a parts wanted ad. You might also visit the site called: http://www.73-77olds.com/ as it's primarily people with the 73-77 cars. Welcome to the world of Oldsmobile again!!!

P.S. Consider posting the city and state you live in with your profile. You don't know, there could be someone right across town with the parts you need! John

Hey '73 Salon:

Don't let your wife drive the new one!

'73 is the only year that they made the 4 door? I just saw a 1970 4 door on Ebay with low miles. I wish I had more room at home for it! It's very different. 73-77 are the "Bastard" years for these cars and some parts are pretty damn hard to come by. On the other hand, around here you will see many more of the 68-72 cars on the road so ours are kind of unique. I know as I've got a '76 Cutlass S and just trying to find the correct air cleaner (the previous owner put a crome one on it) assembly was a project. Get this, the fresh air intake HOSE went for $135.00 on Ebay recently! Good luck and keep us informed on your progress. This is a very good forum to get info on your project.

From what I can determine, the Cutlass Salon wasn"t introduced until 1973. From what I've read, it was a 4 door in 1973, and went to a 2 door in 1974. It was the Old's "Colonnade" type styling. The Salon was a Cutlass Supreme with the Y78 (Salon) option. There were other 4 doors, but I'm not sure they are Salons. And no, my wife isn't allowed to drive this one. I tried to tell her that since she smashed the last one, she should pay for this one. That didn't go over real well. If I can figure out how to do it, I will post some pictures.

Eh?

Guess again. My books show a 4-door colonnade Salon was available thru 1976. N/A in 1977, then reintroduced on the downsized buttless platform.

Originally introduced in 1973 as a handling and upscale trim package on the J29/57 Supreme, then in 1975-76 it was designated K29/57.

Contemporary road tests against Mercedes surprised the testers. The Salon held its own against the European sedan and was actually faster.
