Rechrome or replace bumpers
I want to do something about my bumpers on my 70 442. They are not in very good condition. Chromers around here want about $700 apeice to do them. Have any of you guys used Desert Dog for an original rechromed bumper? www.desertdogautoparts.com/. They take any core and give you a rechromed original for $329. How about the repro's? I see ones on ebay for $280. I don't want any Chinese parts which are probably what most of the repros are. I just don't know. Any recommendations or comments appreciated.

It really depends on what the car is to you? A nice driver or a show queen that is a possible investment? A car that you just want to drive and don't care about perfection, go with the re-pro. I've seen some and to be honest, you get what you pay for. Otherwise, talk to some reputable places, you'll usually see guys like Paul's Chrome and such mentioned in the mags, they're a little pricey, but I know they're stuff lasts much longer than the chinese chrome. I've made that mistake on my '72!

I had my bumpers redone here in Houston by DC Bumper Exchange. They did a fantastic job. The rear bumper was bent.I wanted to see what type of work they would do and once I saw what they did with the rear bumper, I was pleased. It cost 304.00. The front bumper cost 278.00.Very happy with the results made the bumpers look brand new and allowed me to keep the originals. The only draw back was it took about 2 months for either one of them, because they sent it off somewhere to be fixed and rechromed.

I am facing the same issue. I need to find a good chrome shop in the Seattle, WA area that won't break the bank for both my 57 and 48 project cars. From what I have seen repair and re-chrome with a good shop is the way to go for quailty and lasting results.

69'442 - I've had two pair of bumpers done by Desert Dog and their work is top shelf - the chrome is some of the best I've seen - I have two more bumpers I'll be sending them this winter - I can post some pictures of the ones I just got back last month for my 65 GTO if you would like!
