leaking steering column box

leaking steering column box

i have a 1965 olds dynamic 88. i have noticed that the box on the end of the steering column is leaking a little. does anyone know if a person can get a rebuild kit for them or do you have to replace the whole box? where can i get a kit if thats the case? and how hard is it to do? thanks chris

You could buy a rebuild kit I'm sure. Or Rockauto.com might have a whole rebuilt unit for around $200 bucks.

I strongly recommend Power Steering Services. Chip is a great guy and does a fantastic job of rebuilding steering boxes. He can swap in quick ratio gears if you like.

Don't try to rebuild a power steering gear box yourself. I have heard they are a PITA. It is easier just to have someone else service it or buy a new or rebuilt one. The price isn't too high either.
