On bare metal, use a self-etching epoxy primer. Bonds to the metal and seals it.
Regular primer is porous and will absorb moisture and cause it to start the oxidation process almost immediately under your new paint job. But it's great over the epoxy primer. Guide coat layer of red...Fog with grey...sand...guide coat layer of red...Fog with grey...sand...repeat as necessary. By the way...did I tell everybody that we are READY FOR BASECOAT ON MY CAR!
