Eric, I could be wrong but they might have to do that funny angle to get a support hanger for that chambered exhaust? IIRC they're heavier than stock mufflers for your car.

Its a single exhaust with dual tailpipes, I think one side is inop.

Good eye! The last pic shows your comment clearly, no pipe to the exhaust. I musta got distracted by the other 2 headlights in a couple of those pics..

Still, a nice looking car with great color combo.

Very good eye Eric. I didn't notice that either. My 54 doesn't have true duals because they are pretty close to impossible to insall with power steering. This car doesn't have power steering. Maybe they did not want to cut the holes in the frane on the left side. I had the muffler shop split the tailpipe in front of the gas tank so at least I get something out of both pipes. I think a J-2 would have true duals from the factory.

The holes in the frame are there.

Then it really is dumb without duals. I think 56 was the first year duals were available so all frames were probably cut from the factory.

The pics do show a great view of the X frame, which apparently isn't all that strong or safe in collisions? This pic shows the construction, and also the matching hole for the dual exhaust. I just thought of something - a frame damage collision would also likely take out the prop shaft as it goes through the center of the X frame. That could also cause trans/eng damage as well as differential damage?
