You mean this one?

Manual drum brakes (yeah, not impossible, but not likely - or desirable - on a convertible, either), incorrect Chinesium chrome valve covers, incorrect newer shift **** (and possibly the entire shifter?), questionable red inner fenders, and crappy low-res photos that make it impossible to discern the details. All for a mere $190K.

I thought manual discs were standard on the 1970 W-30s ?

Manual drums were a little-known, but factory documented option on the 1970 cars. This was offered primarily for drag racers. Using drum brakes allows you to back off on the self adjusters and reduce rolling resistance. Useful at the track, not so good on the street. That's why I said it was unlikely on this car but not impossible.

Odd , I just walked around this car on Friday ..

For purely factual data , refer to Mecum LOT # S - 103 , Seattle June 6th 2015.
That is where this car exchanged hands .

In the Mecum description it indicates that there are disc brakes on this car . Indicates previous owner purchased it in 1994 . Reported finished restoration in 2005 , 500 miles on car since restoration . From the pictures @ Mecum , it appears to have Canadian plates on the car , and when I asked , manager indicated they are waiting on the Canadian Documentation .

I would never personally NEVER wade into verification of a 1970 W - 30 without bringing ALL of the documentation and previous owner information PLUS pictures of the restoration in progress . And , have a 3rd party from perhaps Wisconsin or California show me every I.D. number on Trans , frame , Carb , Intake , Cowl Tag .. ETC . If this Was / Is a Seattle of Canadian built car , somebody on this Forum should be really familiar with it .
And, if we have anybody really interested , there might be an Arizona 442 specialist that I know that could totally verify ..

I trust 70 - 72 W-30 , 442's about as much as , 67 - 69 Z - 28 Camaro's ,
66 - 67 - 427 Corvettes , LS - 6 or Aluminum headed anything Chevrolet .
Buyer beware , but this car is represented as the real deal . If it gets Canadian Doc's , it would be significantly better ..
My .02 , JT

I don't know where the "Drum Brakes" came from as I can see disk brake backing plates......which would make the master cylinder incorrect.

I see no documentation presented to validate the claims of W-30 and/or 4 speed status.

For my own info, as I have never seen or heard of a factory 1970 W-30 with front drums........who's got an example?

You are correct about this car. I saw the M/C and didn't pay any attention to the shot from underneath. Using the incorrect M/C makes me even more wary of the quality of this car.

The drums on a 70 W-30 was discussed here some time ago. From this thread, I quote:

That equates to a 1/2 fender or full fender length ahead at the lights!

You will not find this code JL7 in any sales info. It is listed in the "Inspectors Guide" booklet only. A "Service Bulletin" and "Sales Information Letter" was sent to dealers announcing it's availability.
I'll also point out that with a factory-issued service bulletin, manual drums would be NHRA legal on a 1970 W-30 stocker, whether it came with them from the factory or not. I'd be surprised if many cars were built with drums from the factory, but converting a race car would be easy, and allowed under the rules.

Angry Not a W- 30 .

I just saw the Canadian Doc's on this car this AM . Definite as a 442 , 4spd , Convert . AND it was a color change .
It is supposed to be a Metallic Orange ? outside , and I believe Wht. top and interior . Bad information from Seller to Mecum to Buyer ..
Hopefully it never appears as a W -30 , 4 spd.. , Red car in the future .. JT

Just to confirm .

Owner in Scottsdale and Mecum and previous owner have reached agreement .
Car stays in Scottsdale . It is currently priced at 69,990. 00 .

If you go on ebay to see pictures and description from Browns Classic Autos in Scottsdale Arizona ... The Red Convert is identified as a CLONE . The car is very nice , and for what it is worth ,, This car would make someone a very nice driver . Any of the real ones are going to be 200,000 plus and very few are driven .

As a shameless plug , MY 1967 , 442 , Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe is for sale just below for FIVE dollars more , 69,995.00 ...

Cheers , from 112 degree Phoenix AZ .. JT
