67 442 Post in MN (New Price)

Selling my 1967 Oldsmobile 442 Post w/Automatic Transmission. Gold Ext / Black Int, Bucket Seats.

This is a true 442 (have protecto plate) that was originally owned by a older lady in California, and the car was sent to her son in WI when the original owner passed away. In 1997 the car was restored (I have lots of paperwork) and a 455ci (396021 F) block was used with the stock 400 heads.

The owner prior to me bought the car in 2001 with 4500 miles on since the restore in 1997. He drove the car 600 miles since that time to when I bought it in February 2012. I've put around 2k miles since then, and the car runs and drives beautifully. I've driven it on two 300mile drives without a problem.

It has Jet-Coated Headers, DynoMax Ultra-flo Mufflers, a bigger cam, front disc brakes, 18 inch chrome wheels, and a couple more little add-ons. Ford Rear End. Other than that the car is near stock.

I have 3 sets of wheels and tires for this car, the original w/caps, the SS1s with good tires, and the 18 inch chromes on the car.

I have the original block, and all kinds of extra parts, plus new weather stripping.

There are only a few issues with the car that I know of. First the car needs some body work and a new paint job. No rust, but has some dents/scratches, a larger dent on passenger fender and door (have extra door and fender if needed). Apparently when it was restored, the owner put all his money on the motor, chrome and interior, but didn't have enough money or expertise to complete the body and paint properly. It was painted, but it is rough, and the body work wasn't done well. The fuel gauge in the car is shorting out and needs to be fixed, sometimes it works. Also, something is causing a constant power draw and it needs to be looked into. Car has air, but hasn't been charged. The the valve cover needs a new cork gasket, very light oil leak from a bad seal. Power steering pump needs a rebuild, functions fine but makes a ticking noise on each revolution. Driver side seat has a 1inch tear along one of the seams.

Interior - 8/10
Exterior - 7/10
Chrome - 8/10

Only reason I want to sell is I have a 2 month old and it isn't getting used enough. I would like it to go to someone who will enjoy it and not store it in a garage.

Car is in Apple Valley, MN.

$16,500 - No trades. Will consider selling it without the chrome wheels and can put the SS1 wheels back on.

Lovely car & good luck with the sale. Just wondering how the 455 in the car now could have possibly come from a 1968 442 when the 1968 442 only came with the 400?.

That's what I was told during purchase. Block and head numbers in this thread. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ke-i-need.html

You may have been told it but it is not true so perhaps you should stop saying it. It is general knowledge that no 1968 442 came with a 455 so by saying so in your ad you cast suspicion on the car. Again good luck with the sale.

It is a nice car, but oldsmobiledave was pointing out that it just cannot be a '68 442 455 because they did not come with a 455, it may indeed be a '68 455, but from the full size Olds lineup.

Your cowl tag confirms that it is a 442, there is no vin or it's derivative stamped into cowl tags.
