Chris this is my car and please explain to me why you say this is not a w31 when I have all Canadian documents that use the w31 call out. The car is as real and correct as it gets

I have personally seen the car and the DOCUMENTATION this is a REAL W31 ramrod. Octania it is a shame you would make the claim of it not being real without knowing the facts. What is even funnier is that last year you even acknowledged this car was a real W31 ramrod. I think an apology is in order to 66trakpak

I don't find humor in false allegations about a car I'm selling. But thank you for your nice comment on the car.

Chris, you're on thin ice here with your constant expertise on cars you know nothing about. This car is a fully documented 68 W-31 Ram Rod. The Canadian docs show the W-31 option. You come across as a clown sometimes and should really put some thought in your comments.

Nothing funny about making a false comment about a car that's the real deal. Chris likes to be a expert and class comedienne @ the same time. The guy who owns this car is not happy with him @ all. You never know who might be reading these comments from Rodney Dangerfield and be a prospective buyer @ the same time.

Not trying to add to the humor, just to be clear, but aren't the production numbers listed in the auction actually for the 1969 W-31 Cutlass S Sports Coupe?

Nice

Awesome car. Love your decision to go with redlines over the correct white wall tires. Best of luck with the sale. Lucky the man who owns it next.

Thanks all for the nice comments. It does hurt me to sell this car, and am only doing so because I just bought a certain red 66 442 that was parked next to you in the North Texas zone meet recently. Whoever ends up with this car will be very happy I'm sure.

Beautiful paint, and car overall. I noticed extra cost "wheel discs" on the window sticker. I thought the buyer received the dog dish caps when no optional wheel covers/wheels were ordered. In this case, the dog dish caps were an option?

Good luck with the sale.

No I have the wheel disks but preferred the poverty cap look.

Thumbs up

This car is as beautiful in person as it is in photos! Very impressive. Awesome color combo! The work is virtually flawless on the body. The guy who buys this will not be disappointed!

I think an apology is in order to 66trakpak
================================

ooooh i thought that would get a comment or two and some education slapped upside my head, but did not think about affecting a sale. To 66trakpak and any others slighted, please accept my apologies. I was urging folks to save the photos because it is a stunning example. Surely you can see that.

It was said tongue in cheek, expecting the backlash, with my feeble argument to be on the grounds that prior to 1968 they were called "Ram Rods" and only that.

For the record, I have NO doubts about this car's pedigree. No troubles or worries.

I was in a bit of a hurry and should have elaborated and stated that I expected to be caught. And corrected. I did not notice that the ad said "W31" - I just noticed "Ram Rod."

So, what with the 1968 versions being called "Ram Rod" and not *technically* W31 [or is there factory literature that states "W-31" or W31" for 1968?? this is where you all get to shoot me down...] I bounced out the assertion IN JEST that it was "not a W31 (because they were called Ram Rod at that time)..."

I do apologize for the error, and we sure don't want prospective buyers finding false or misleading info even in jest and taking that as Gospel.

So, school is in session:
for 1968, and ONLY 1968,
is the small block with OAI
1) Ram Rod only, period, or...
2) Ram Rod or W31, depending on what decal or literature is referred to?

we can rule out
3) W31 only, for the fender decal says "Ram Rod"

I realllllly do appreciate you fellers, and was in fact composing a big Thank You to all who come here to help and enjoy the comraderie and Talk Olds. Here, I just wanted to 1) bring the photos and text, and 2) spur discusson about the Ram Rod vs W31 naming issue for pre-69 models.

Octania, for what it's worth I've always found you to be stand a up guy and understood your tongue in cheek comment immediately.

I suggest that you right-click and SAVE these photos for your collection. The links will not stay viable here forever.

That's the tip off. Save these pics before they're gone. I got it.

What an awesome car. Can you imagine picking this up at the dealer. I suppose you can pick it up right now if want. It's bid to 32k. Seems a little light but is getting close to value IMHO.

I agree,Chris is always trying to help as a lot of us are and I do get his humor. When a car is for sale, that's not the time for anything that takes away from the seller unless it's called for. In this case there's nothing that needed commenting on unless like Chris said to save the pictures/info for future reference. Just as the thread about the 66 442 Club Coupe for sale @ Mecum has some statements that are not true. I have always taken the stance that I do not comment on anything for sale unless I have a stake in it. I'm always getting request from guys wanting to know what their cars are worth. I always tell them I do not put values on other guys cars because the market varies so much with many different factors. The thing I do say is something is worth what somebody is willing to pay,a cliche I know but it's the truth.

so, you technical experts... does the "W31" umbrella extend to cover the 1968 Ram Rod? If say GM of Canada docs specifically list it as W31 then I guess so. Even if the fenders assert that "Ram Rod" is the subspecies.

Look at the documentation from GM of Canada in the eBay ad. It specifically calls out the W31 option.

Thanks for clearing up your thoughts on the first post as well...

What he said. If you had the broadcast card,it would have W-31,not Ram Rod. A mere technicality but to say it's not a W-31 is pure BS and should have never been mentioned.

Well you know me I hate to spread bullshed.

I really just wanted to spur discussion and clear up the 1968-only use of "Ram Rod" vs. "W31" with or w/o a hyphen. It was a reference only to the terminology used to descibe such a 1968 Small Block Outside Air Induction factory offering, and NOT intended to question the legitimacy of the w-ness history, nor impugn the reputation of the car or the seller.

I was preparing for a family function and in a hurry and totally FAILED to go acutally LOOK AT the other photos. As I mentioned, I even failed to see that the text, which I copied and pasted here, actually asserted "W31" - which in my mind meant that someone would start off the discussion with "He said it was a Ram Rod OAI car, not 'W31'" - leading to that point of discussion.

I failed to read the very text I was referring to
I failed to look at all the photos and docs
I failed to consider the ramifications of discussing the pedigree of a car for sale.

For these failures I again apologize. I hope you can forgive these transgressions.
It looks totally gorgeous, what a great example, and even a for-real SB OAI car.

Thanks for the education and the reminder that words should be chosen more carefully, lest things get taken the wrong way by readers not grasping the full context. I can only imagine the pedigree pounding I will have to endure should the day come to sell the '68.

The number quoted is for the bodystyle, but I'm still thinking it's a 1969 number.

are you talking about the Fisher body Broadcast Card? For 68 and 69, they do not have W-31 on them. For 70, they did have W-31, usually in box 3 iirc.

In 1968 the marketing weenies called the W30 a 400 Ram Rod and the W31 a 350 Ram Rod. By 1969 they realized that their catchy names didn't really catch on, and so they went with the option codes just like Chevy did with the L88 etc.

Some factory literature such as the list of options in the parts manuals will not be complete. For example, it won't show the early W30 or the 68 W31 options, and in 1972 it calls the W30 the W machine option.

Look at the hokey ads in 1966 done by those marketing weenies. No resemblance to the work done by Olds Engineering.
I have also seen statements which seem credible that the airflow to the ducts was better in 1968 than in 1969 because the parking lights in the 1969 bumper disrupted flow. Thus, for light weight and performance, the 1968 may have been the pinnacle for the W31. On the drag strip, the 1968 W31 got the same e.t. as the W30.
