I have a 1968 w-30 convertible auto one of only 43 built. Complete matching drive train and paper work. Ow trans with all date code and factory stampings. I bought the w-30 off the original family who ordered the car new from the factory.This w-30 is a white,white,white stripe delete hup cap car. Makes this a one of one car.The car is currently getting a frame off restoration with using all nos parts to put it back together.My plans are to enter this car either mecum in the spring or barrett next Jan. I thought i will offer this car here before I do a color change to blue with a white stripe.The asking price finish 125k

Just curious, why would you do a color change on such a unique & rare car? I would think it would be more valuable if restored like it came from the factory.

I think a color change would make it more marketable and pop the white interior.There is only a few buyers out there that would pay that price for a white car. Its all about eye candy when you are selling at an auction.My opinion. Has far as the one of one just observation. With only 43 made how many white then with white interior and then with stripe delete and then with hup caps.

Is the rear 342 or 391 ?
And yes w only 43 made it probably is the only one w that combo.
I hope you get that if done the 68's IMO don't get enough credit

Looks great the way it is. Nicer with the rallye's . Great to have a car with the paperwork. I agree with dnmfranco the 68's do not get the credit they deserve.

You've posted the paperwork before. This is a very rare car. Other than Canadian cars practically NONE have paperwork because the 68-69 broadcast cards didnt have the W30 designation. I've never seen a fender stripe delete W30 before. IMO you're going to drop the value of this car an incredible amount by not restoring it to the original

Here's my take, which is just an opinion and not coming from an expert POV.

You have a '68. They are not so much in demand except to Oldsmobile people. And it's an automatic, so despite the rarity, it's not the preferred choice of collectors for a year that already isn't on the top of many people's lists.

Hence, why try to perfume it? Your car is only going to go to that one guy/gal who is dying for a car like yours, and if it's not the original color, it may detract from the desirability factor and weed out that certain someone whom we know is hard to find already because everyone wants a '70-71.

I realize some other cars - especially a '69 - have gone for a lot more money than expected, and they even painted it the original Saffron (a love/hate color, it seems - I love it). But that car was a 4-speed and was restored to the nth degree, if I recall correctly.

Another thing: I can't imagine a W-30 not having Posi - am I missing something?

Otherwise, a triple-white combo is quite rare for a performance car - on a Caddy, I can see it, but yours is quite unusual, especially since it originally didn't have the stripe to break up the color. I do appreciate the uniqueness of the car but maybe the middle ground is to keep it its unique color combo and sell it with the stripe, but the orange color that likely was rare back then. Make sure you specify it was an original stripe-delete car because I think it's an important part of its heritage.

And those wheelcovers? Yes, those are not hubcaps - they're wheelcovers! I myself can appreciate them, but if you're going to auction the car, you may want to throw on some mags and, like the stripe, specify how it was originally equipped.

So now my editorial: I roll my eyes when I see people say "1 of 1." It means nothing. You know what has value? Triple white. Unusual wheelcovers. Stripe-delete. 1 of 43 automatics....THOSE are the items that have relevance. You have NO documentation that shows it to be 1 of 1 and, besides, pretty much every car is 1 of 1 in some manner. I think you debase the car when you make a claim you cannot back up. IMHO

yes they could come w non posi's although not common
Sam in Canada has a 68 w-30 w a non posi 391 and is documented as such
specific ratios were dictated with W cars (342,391 and 433) not positraction.


In Sam's case original owner did not select posi and assumed that is way it would be maufactored

I agree with Diego. Keep it authentic, and bling up the wheels while being sure to keep the originals. Pedigree is everything, and appreciating that is part of it, too.

Unless there are two 68 W30 convertibles, triple white, stripe delete cars then this car was originally posted by someone with the username "w30". I don't know if this car has changed owners or the owner has changed usernames.


I don't think the punchcards are as good a documentation as a window sticker or original invoice but they're better documentation than 99% of the other 68-69 Lansing cars.

no same owner I just want to thank everyone who has responed. Ive been collecting oldsmobile for 30 years. My first car was 442 pace car and the bugs was set.My restoration will be top notch with using only nos parts.My base on price was the yellow auto that sold in mecum last year.

The Saffron W30 that sold at Mecum had been for sale for quite a few years by John Ebbs but it didn't have any paperwork. After it was purchased the paperwork "appeared". I'm not saying it wasn't possible, but it was kind of weird.

Also just curious what carb is on there?
I ask because its known that early w-30's came with 8251's and the later ones started getting the 8254's.

That question will never be answered. He took his own life sometime in the late 90s. Met with the daughter last week, was a very emotional day for her.I would say he didnt want to attarct attention.

This is a '69 W-30 4 speed with Doc's that was sold out of the Milt Robson collection by RM auctions. It now resides in a private collection here in Illinois. It has been on display at the MCACN show.
