Hi all thinking about this car?
Would someone that lives near this car be willing to go look at it for me if I sent you some cash for your time and effort!!
Are these cars really really worth this much?

Perhaps the price is a bit on the high side, but the car looks to be in excellent shape.
The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of an '88 Trofeo in showroom condition at about $8,700. For the next level down, "car show" condition, the value is about $5,600. The asking price is between these two values, and the car is maybe between these two condition levels. Hard to say without seeing it in person. The low mileage certainly helps.
In my opinion, he's got a very reasonable asking price. He's looking, of course, for the highest he can get, but he hasn't priced it ridiculously high. You, of course, can offer him anything you want. If the car is checked out and proves to be everything it looks to be, you might offer him $6,000 and see what he says. The worst he can do is say no. But he might come back with a counter offer. If he doesn't, and you're still interested, you might raise your offer to $6,500. Etc. You never know. But I wouldn't expect him to negotiate until there is an offer on the table. Cash talks. Everything else is just speculation.
By the way, how far are you from this car? If it's at all reasonable, and if you're really interested, it's worth spending some time and money to take a look at it yourself. As helpful as others might be in looking at it for you, there's no substitute for your own eyes. At least, you might consider going to see it for yourself if someone else checks it first and gives it a thumbs up. But, personally, I would probably not make offers without seeing it with my own eyes.

I am in St.Louis,Missouri so I am quite a ways from North Carolina. About 11 1/2 hours, nothing I would not travel for!
as far as price all I would be able to offer is7K and that's not including transportation cost! Driving it back or having it transported!

That's awfully close to his asking price. I can't believe you guys couldn't come to an agreement or that he wouldn't be willing to drop the price $300 (less than 5% of his asking price) to make the sale. But start somewhere lower and see what he says. He might say yes at $6,000 or $6,500, especially if you argue that you need to spend some money to get it home as well.
Some of this will depend on the kind of interest he's getting. If he's had it for sale for six months without a nibble, he might be ready to deal. But if it was just listed last week and he's already had 20 phone calls, maybe not so much. You never know until you try.
As far as getting it back home, it certainly sounds like you should be able to drive it home. That would certainly be cheaper than shipping it, I would think. Shipping would probably cost around $1,000 unless you have friend of a friend of a friend with a truck and trailer.

the trofeo had a 88-92 run but you may be right and the VIC didnt come out untill 89 they were a great option to have... i have a spare working monitor
