I think this car was mentioned in a thread a couple months ago, and now here it is. Great color combination.

I realize these cars are extremely rare - especially the 4 speeds. Only 1029 W31's built in 1970. I guess a buyer will have to evaluate several things: How much will it cost to restore as there are a LOT of rust issues evident, and what to pay without the original engine, beat up trim, missing parts etc. The heads have an 8 on them, so if the engine is a complete transplant it's a 73 350. Does your friend have the original block?

I looked for comparable 70 W31's and most of them in this shape were well south of your friends ask, but I wish him luck as these are a rare car. I used Joe P's Classic Car Price Tracker that shows the actual selling prices of cars that were offered for sale and bought! The firewall shows manual brakes, which is consistent with a 4 speed and 328° cam that was in the original engine for this car.

How long has it lived in Ontario?

I own a 1970 442 hardtop from this same dealer, C and O Motors, in Saint Albans, West Virginia - ironically burgundy mist and white as well. C and O Motors still uses the identical metal trunk emblem (with the Olds rocket) to this day on all their new cars.

Hi Allan R, as noted in ad it was around 2007 that it was imported into Canada. He has basically done nothing with it except change the wheels from slotted aftermarket mags to the olds rallies and drive it a couple of times a year. No the original engine is gone, the intake stayed with car and he has a balancer from a w31 donor car that was parted out by one of our friends, This really is the way he got the car with the exception of the wheels being changed. Thanks Darryl

And Terry you are correct some asked about it, I finally got around to getting some pics and the info to post it here for him.

Sorry Darryl, I missed that line about the import and documentation.

Shane - maybe it's close enough to go have a look at?

Docs available

Hello all,

Just want to clarify the docs in the pics package were just some copied sheets and hand written just as a reference. The owner has the originals from car unmarked up with no hand writing etc. there is a proto plate from state of WEst Virginia with original owners name. There is a broadcast sheet with w31 option, 4 speed etc. there is one more doc also not sure what it is called from GM and then the original rad support w31 decal has been kept with the other paper work it is worn but all there.

Also the big balancer is included with purchase. The owner is looking for $11500 US firm but as always all serious cash offers would be considered.

Thx Darryl

I probably would have bought this if I didn't find my 70 442 in the fall - the prices were about the same, and they are both the same color, and the only color I wanted. Sometimes I wish my first 442 was blue or red, I would have found one in much nicer condition for less money - damn burgundy mist gets me everytime

Cool W-Machine. Its going to have to be a labor of love for someone. It would be great to see it done or just show it as is at MCACN Barn Finds!

Considering how bad mine was - this looks like a piece of cake. I just finished putting in the new interior floor pans, have cut the trunk pan out, and will begin working on the cowl in a few weeks. The nice think is the frame, quarters, and roof on mine are all very solid

Hi Steve,

Yes original Broadcast Card, Proto Plate and the orginal w31 rad decal have been put aside and one other document (pictured are just some bad copies kept in the car that were so light someone hand wrote over for referenece only. I have the originals you can PM for more details on that. As for 4 spd linkage I know shifter has been added long ago so they did some hacking around the floor area for this. I can try to get pictures underneath the trans for ya if interested.

Air Cleaner is missing along with carb. Big balancer IS INCLUDED not on the current motor but loose part included. I may have a lead on the original air cleaner (top section only) from another local guy which could be purchased or maybe worked out in a deal. Owner wants to sell the car but doesnt have to so he is looking for close to the asking price as possible but we are reasonable guys to deal with.
