This car has the nicest trunks I have ever seen as far as the condition and being a restoration benchmark. Those pictures are great! It makes me lament selling my first cutlass again, I had a 40k mile original and let it go...this is the next closet I have seen (while probably in even better condition) I wish I could add this to the fleet, good luck with the sale!

I saw this car out at Carlisle this past Thursday. Im surprised it didnt sell. Its probably one of the cleanest original's I've seen in years.

It is a fine example of what it is, sure I'd love for it to be red with white buckets, ps,pb, ps,pl, cruise tilt 8 track factory guages but its not. And it is an asking price. Need to start somewhere.

Thanks. I figure I'll drive it around some with a sign in it and its a car you need to see to believe. Its not perfect but you know what you are getting. Car averaged 17.5 mpg @ 70-75 mph over the 700+ mile trip.

I understand that. Not saying it isn't a great example, and sure as heck I wish it had those options too! I did look at the entire photo album you linked BTW. There were a few things I noted, but hey! This is a 42 year old car. Granny must have loved her. Best of luck on the sale.

Covert beige and Baroque Gold - had a 72 Cutlass S Post Coupe with 50K miles on it a few years back. Olds Nationals were here in Cinci at the time and the judges said it was super rare.

Very nice Cutlass. Great gas mileage for averaging that speed, do you what the rear axle gear ratio is in the Cutlass? Wish Pennsylvania would adopt speed limits higher than the archaic 65 mph their stuck on, as is most of the Northeast, and be more realistic with 70-75 posted speed limits.

I had a twin to this car about a year ago in Gold. I added some wheels / tires and cleaned it up. The car brought a little more than your asking price and sold in less than 2 weeks. Don't get discouraged with low ballers. There are buyers out there.

Cutlass S was available as a HT and Post. Model 3687 HT and Model 3677 Sports Coupe (aka Post)

The Cutlass was also available as a post. Only one that isn't is the CS.

My Cutlass S is described on the dealer invoice as a Holiday. Was the "Holiday" a package of options? Mine is buckets, tilt, PS, front disc, air etc. I don't really know how much or if any of this has anything to do with being a "Holiday". Care to explain Alan?

Really quite easy actually. The term 'Holiday' was just Olds speak for the hardtop coupe. It has nothing to do with the options you have in your car. The Cutlass, Cutlass S and Cutlas Supreme were all available as Holiday coupes. Only the Cutlass and Cutlass S were available as Post coupes, and only the Cutlass Supreme was available as a convertible.

This is all about body styles
3277 cutlass post. Vin starts 3F77

3687 cutlass s holiday. Vin starts 3G87

Actually, Holiday referred to hardtop, period, including four-doors. Those were typically called Holiday Sedans.

Maybe. I have yet to find a reference to the late 60's and up Ninety Eight Luxury Sedans being called "Holiday". Back in the 50's and 60's the term "Holiday" was actively used to describe the cars though. I used the Holiday reference in this thread specifically to the A Body lineup since that was what the question was addressed to; it's synonymous with 'Hardtop', but doesn't mean Hardtop. We both understand this, so let's move on.

We can fix this problem quickly enough. Here's a page out of the '69 Olds Full-Line brochure summarizing all of the '69 models.

Note the third 98 down in the left column. Note also the first model shown under Delta 88 Custom, the first one shown under Delta 88, the first one under Cutlass Supreme, and the fourth one under Cutlass. All four-door hardtops, all called Holiday Sedans.

In the case of the 98, note that both a Luxury Sedan pillared car and a Luxury Sedan four-door hardtop were offered as separate, more upscale versions of their Holiday Sedan and Town Sedan counterparts.

Here's a page out of the '70 brochure. Note the car pictured at upper right. It's a little hard to read because the type is small, but it says "Ninety-Eight Holiday Sedan."

Point taken. Well done! I obviously was incorrect and apologize. I went and looked at the 70 models and that theme is repeated. It appears to change in 71 and Holiday is replaced by 'Hardtop'. It's been an interesting and enlightening discussion.

Yes, starting in '71, the term Holiday disappeared from the names of Olds four-door hardtops, never to return again. Starting in '77, Olds made no more four-door hardtops, period, under any name. Sad. I like both the body style and the name "Holiday," which was used by Olds for many years (since the early '50s"? late '40s?)

In the production records in Setting the Pace, the first use of the word "Holiday" was in 1949 and used only on a 98 coupe. In 1950, the term Holiday appeared in all of the Olds lines (76, 88, and 98), again only on a coupe in each case. The first use of Holiday on a four-door was in 1955, when a Holiday Sedan style was available in all Olds lines (88, Super 88, and 98).
