Wow! that trunk looks rust free. If there are no under body or chassis rust problems that car is pretty nice. The price seems reasonable too.

As said in the other thread seems there was some decent rot on this car not pictured in this ad. I still think it would be a nice project for someone.

more than $2400 with the 400 E
engine and breather, with buckets.

Hopefully someone will save it. Looks sweet.

I didn't even know you could get a 400 without getting the 442 option. Was it the same for 65-67? I don't know squat about 64-67's

67-69 Vista Cruisers were available with 400's. 67 was first year for Turnpike Cruiser. Police package cars in 65-66-67-68-69 could be ordered with 400 engine in most body styles.

So 67 was the only year from 64-69 that you could get a big block in an a-body (non wagon) that wasn't a 442 package or a 442 VIN. I knew 67 had a Turnpike Cruiser Option I just assumed you had to order it with the 442 option.

Henry is the one who would know for sure but
there is quite a difference between the 400 E,
(66-67), and the 400 G (68-69).
The E block was a short stroke forged crank
and the G block was a long stroke cast crank, I beleive.
You can wind the shtuff out of the E, but could blow a G
if it was factory. I will attest to a well built 400 G though.
Years ago before I tore my 69 442 into a millon pieces, I wound
my G block up to at least 6 K and it didn't blow, valves floated
some... I had been drinking a little too...It had also been rebuilt
by an old boy that knew Odsmobiles well.. God rest his soul.

Heck I didn't even know there was a 400 E available in 65.
I'll be on the lookout now for one of those too. the 400 E's
are some of the best imop. Harder and harder to find.

Chris, the story I have for my 69 442
is I purchased the car after it had been sitting
in a field in the Texas panhandle for 26 yrs. from
a man who told his Mother to pick it up for him.
He was coming home from the Nam. He only drove
it for a total of ten yrs and had had the engine and trans
rebuilt right before he parked it. I know it sounds crazy, but
I transported it home, oiled it up, ran the engine over severel
times without spark, new points, new gas and it fired and ran great.
It had been repainted once and the old emron blue just looked like crap.
So my thinking was frame-off! 7 years and a lot of new parts later, coupled
with getting burned $6500 from a body man on metal work, I was sick to
my stomach and pee ooed. Stopped work on it and bought the 66..F... it.
I'll get back to it one day, the good Lord willing.
