1955 Super 88 Texas barn find a/c car

1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 2dr Hardtop. Turquoise/white (paint code S70-60). I found the car sitting in a Texas barn where it had been parked since 1988. Clean Texas title.

The car has been owned by the same older gentleman for over 30 years. It was restored in the early 1980's and used for local car shows, and cruise nights. The car was parked while he worked on other projects... and unfortunately sat (for 25 years).

Odometer shows 78K miles. I was told that's original...really makes no difference after 60 years, and one restoration. I was also told if you put in a battery, and fresh fuel it would run. I have not tried to start it (yet), but will this weekend.

Accessories/Options: Factory air conditioning, 4bbl carb, power steering, power brakes, hydramatic transmission, rear speaker, dash clock (not working) tinted glass, back up lights, padded dash, and courtesy lights.

This car will need a full restoration (again) to be a nice show car. I was told everything worked the last time the car was used including the air conditioning. The bottom car needs to be sand blasted, and painted (there is surface rust all over from sitting). The floors are solid except by the driver's foot which will need a patch. Overall it's a fairly solid, and rare car.

Interior is still in decent condition for being about 30 years old (presentable). Needs cleaning, carpet kit, kick panels, and anything chrome re-plated (or nice used original parts). Glove box needs a new liner.

According to Hemming's, the a/c option was rare because of price. At $695.00 it could add 25-30% to the cost of a new car. At best only 5% of all GM cars had a/c in 1955. Today there are not that many of them left, and in Arizona a/c is a really nice option to have. I am not going to restore this car anytime soon (hope someone else will).

Thanks Eric, it's a nice score. People use "barn find" allot lately. This was one really was in a barn! I am selling everything but one (my 62)... my 98 is up next.

Thanks Anthony. It is rare/complete.. and deserves a full restoration. When I finish my 62-88 I'm done restoring cars (for a while). Looking to find a good home for it.

I don't think I ever seen one of these cars with 2 door. Was always 4 door. That will be a nice save

This will make a very nice car. I have never seen an 88 with factory air. It is interesting with all the options this car has that it does not have the Autronic Eye. This is a great car to do a restoration on. Very good find.

Thanks Red.. It's also the first one Ive seen. I've been playing with 55-57 olds for almost 30 years. It's a nice color combo too. Surprised me that it did not have more options. Guess the a/c broke the original owners bank?

When I found the car, I had to have it. After I bought it, my wife asked me when it would be restored... (now it's for sale). I can't let the car sit unrestored w/o knowing when, or if I will get around to it.
