I saw one of these years ago in Moline, IL, parked at the grocery store. It was a yellow 72 Cutlass with a utility-looking bed on it made out of diamond plate. Pretty clever, actually. This must have been a Popular Mechanics conversion.

An unpopular mechanics conversion, I do however like the Olds version of the El Camino.

Sweet...SVNT442.... If Oldsmobile would have done the Olds version of the El Camino, that would have been something....

I think that Cutlass Camino blows the doors off a Chevy anyday! Console, rallye pac, buckets, sport mirrors, T44 hood lock, W25 hood, 455/400, cutout bumper/trumpet exhausts, Y71 thermometer, headlight delay, PW, AM/FM Stereo with 8 track player, tilt, cruise.... this thang is gorgeoes. And more important it's the same color as my car. They call this camino a Touring Coupe. Wonder if it was a W30 car when it was born? The hood tooth has a rocket, but the fenders say 442 W30..

I'm quite sure that vehicle was originally either an El Camino or a GMC Sprint.
They did a PHENOMINAL job converting it.

1970 oldsmobile cutlass "truck" - $1500 (Marengo, ohio)

Olds cutlass "truck" built by my father. Has a 350 Rocket motor, runs great! Smooth ride just like an oldsmobile!

That's cool! I've seen a Buick GS with the same treatment. There must be a Pontiac version somewhere.

I think that as long as there is a plentiful supply of rednecks and beer, there will be a number of these, from every make.

I once made a '67 Cutlass 4dr into a similar thing, my skills were such that it ended up between those two examples. I left the rear fenders and taillights intact. Sealed the cab with a wall, and made a smooth bed out of 3/4 plywood. It did what I needed for a year or 2 until a Datsun turned left in front of me.
