It sure is a nice-looking car, but I doubt he can get $8,500 for it, low mileage or not. Those exterior photos of it aren't the greatest, and three things immediately pop into my mind. The color, sort of a plain brown, isn't very attractive, the paint looks a bit faded, and it's a four-door.
The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value for one of these in #1 condition, which is BETTER than showroom new and a car that is not driven, at only about $5,000. If it were a two-door, that value rises to about $6,000.
In showroom condition, the value listed is only about $3,600, and for a "car show" condition car, the value is only about $2,200. These are a far cry from $8,500.
Having said all this, I CAN see the attractiveness of it. It's very low mileage, the interior really does look to be pristine, and the history, where it really was driven by a little old lady (and her husband) and only to church and back on Sundays, make it worth a look. It might be worth $5,000 or $6,000 just for these. It would be interesting to know what he gets for it, if he sells it.

The guy tosses around the words 'classic' and 'antique' which he thinks justifies the out of line asking price. The problem is you have a non car guy trying to sell to car guys. Just because a car is older doesn't make it special in any way regardless of mileage or condition. I doubt anyone on C.O. would drop 10 bucks on a mint original 1981 Granada. Worthless to most - even to the blue oval gang. Except maybe for the disc brakes...

I would if it came with a V8. Those cars and the Lincoln/ Mercury counterparts, have a very stout rear end and are very sought after just for parts.
