1970 Olds 442 Convertible Clone

This is a very well done 442 clone from the grill and the OAI fiberglass hood all the way back to the bumper cutouts with trumpet exhaust tips, 455 engine, TH400, Long tube headers, 2 1/2 " exhaust with flowmasters, 'O' typer posi rear end (3:23 gears) and front and rear heavy duty sway bars. It is a very reliable driver. I'm told the engine was professionally rebuilt about 3500 miles ago before I bought it. Only two owners over the past 22 years. It does not smoke or burn oil. All new brakes (calipers/pads - Wheel cylinders/shoes), new convertible top with zip out glass window, pads and cables (Hydraulics are solid). Seat covers were new back in 2007. TH400 in great shape. MSD electronic ignition. New alternator and battery. New Custom Auto Sound AM/FM, Sub Woofer and Ipod hook up. The only rust I can find other than the normal undercarriage surface stuff is the trunk pan is thin in one area. No rust in body or wheel well housings. I live in North Aurora, IL (western suburb of Chicago) The car is garage kept (heated warehouse in the winter.) I'd like to get $22,500 for it but any reasonable offer will be considered. I'm motivated. (630) 907-4699. Ask for Bob. Lots more pictures are at my photobucket link. http://s894.photobucket.com/albums/a...cpZZ1QQtppZZ16

Original sheet metal? Is it a southern car?

How about the motor? Stock cam?

Everything works?

1970 Olds 442 Convertible clone

The guy who had it before me owned it for 19 years and did all the cloning. I don't have any idea if the sheet metal is original or not. I'm told the fiberglass hood is a genuiine OAI hood. Here is what doesn't work: The clock; The emergency bake, the indash switch for the top (it operates via a 50amp toggle switch mounted under the dash). I replaced the dash switch once but I'm told all the new ones are made in China and won't stand up to the current and it didn't. The toggle switch works great. The car has been in the midwest for at least22 years now and I've never done a title search to see all the places it's been. For these past 22 years, it has never seen rain or been driven in the winter. If you want the VIN # and know how to track it back, let me know. The motor was a professionally rebuilt crate motor and when installing it, he switched to 'E' heads and said he put in a little more agressive cam. I've never torn the engine apart so I can't confirm or deny any of what he told me. It has a bit of a lope so I suppose there is some overlap. The 'E' heads have the hardened seats and breath a lttle better than what it came with. That is about all I can tell you in that department. The horn, turn signals and all lights work fine right down to the shift indicator and glove box light.

A vacuum can usually indicates the idle is pretty lumpy. How does it idle?
Do you know if it has a stock torque converter and is it posi?
Good luck with the sale. It looks to be a nice car.

It idles around 800 rpm in neutral and 550 when it's in gear. I don't know anything about the torque converter but is seems well matched to the cam. The rear is a 3:23 posi.

Well that didn't take long. Probably should have asked for more. (Could of, should of, would of; as they say) It's sold.

Congrats on the sale.
You got what you asked, the buyer is happy with what he paid - sounds like a good deal all around to me.
