Aegean Aqua was a special order Toro color (--). When I sold my 68 HO a while back, I spent better part of a year and a half searching for an Aegean Aqua W Machine. Always wanted one.

Lately they pop up every 3-4 months.

Happy with my 72 W30 now but still love that color. Looks even better in black stripes and interior (and of course with a stick).

That is a good deal if the body is solid and the paint is nice. Non-original block?

I agree Joe looks better with black stripes and a 4spd.

I REALLY like the white guts and stripes. I would have a whole lot more interest in that car if it had a 4-speed and NO A/C. Not trying to down that car or anyone else's, I just prefer sticks and non-air 442s. I had a REAL hard time finding the one I'm restoring---a '72 small-block, factory 4-speed, non-air. That combo. came with a"special" cam and many people (even Olds guys) aren't aware of it. Try Googling "Sam Murray" current NHRA National Record holder.
By the way, that Agean Aqua listed here is an awesome appearing car---Good luckwith the sale!

They'd have to correct some things on that yellow car before I'd pay top money for it let alone absurd money...........

My opinion anyway.

Why? Seems to me the value is in having the full meal deal. IMO 34K is a lot of money that lots of us don't have right now. Surprised this isn't on the BJ auction right now. It could probably get the money he wants.

someone said it doesn't have documentation. What's the scoop on that?

If I got this right, he bought the car to restore it? That's a lot of $$ to spend for an already done car IMO. If he does take off the W items and sells them separately he might find some $ there, but wouldn't it hurt the selling price of an original W car exponentially to substitute base parts into it? Just trying to understand this. Hope he finds his buyer and the car can stay as is.

The original seller sounds like a dork to me. Why would you insist on holding onto car docs that belong to the car? $500.00 for a broadcast sheet is MORE than fair, but I think it should have come with the car. Same with POP, Onwers manuals, original BOS (if possible)etc.

Ugh, I feel that is just not right. Even if it doesn't have documentation it doesn't mean the next person can't get it or will get it form the first guy And even if he won't sell the documentation (which is just stupid and big time selfish) at this it has some providence as a W30. And it has the OW trans which helps (yeah I know not perfect but better than nothing)

Actually, it was an optional, extra-cost color for the 4-4-2.

Interesting story. So it is a restored car to start with or he bought it and restored it. Why wouldn't he just want to drive it or show it? Not trying to be contentious, I understand selling it, but not 'parting out the W stuff' just because it hasn't sold. Is it a money problem? Naww, don't answer that.

Gosh I hope it stays intact. I have no idea what the W parts are worth, but the ones that I think is worth the most is the intake and heads. The cam and crank would be next. I don't think there's anything really special about the distributor or carb (anyone could correct me on this), and the W/Z manifolds are pretty much stock for W30 and those are reproduced now.

You probably know, as do most of us, that you never really get your money back out of a restoration unless you find Daddy Warbucks. These projects are money pits plain and simple; definitely not investments. They are hobbies. Preaching to the choir aren't I?

If I found a car like that in the barn, I'd buy it too. With or without docs. But I'd resto it original as possible and I'd keep it. Make my Mrs. park outside for a change.

According the the 70 CSM, Aegean Aqua (code 38) was available on *all models* as special order, which Diego also correctly points out was extra cost. You can also verify this by looking at the 1970 SPECS booklet which clearly shows the optional color as *extra cost*. Same applies to Nugget Gold, Rally Red and Sebring Yellow (which was used on the rallye350's) Some rallye's have the -- in the PNT area, others may have 51 51

Don't stop there... take the W stuff and whole drivetrain... the 455/ OW trans all of it, I'll gladly offer you 12k for whats left. Maybe lower your price alittle... upper 20k range might move it without Docs. Before you do anything has anyone double chked behind the drivers seat for a " duplicate " broadcast card, Found mine there and If thats where the prev owner found it he may have had a copy put in the same place. If i had 35K I'd buy it without any Docs; good luck.

Allan the carb and distributor are W30 specific (carb 7040258 dis 1111979 irc), only a nut would worry abut the pistons (but I do understand that as well) so saying that it I'm on Allan's side I just can't see taking a W30 a part He's ultimately potentially providing the opportunity to create two W30s out of one. And I understand that it very well could be a money issue, I wish someone could step up and buy the car but again we rarely get the money back that we put into these cars. Maybe he overspent in the first place. Man I wish I could just save the car.

28k is too much for a pillaged W30 especially in this market. Bring the darn thing to an auction as mentioned. Consign it and let the auction company front the shipping costs.

Edit: of course there are plenty of W30 cars missing parts so if he does take it off hopefully they will go to a person who has a W30.

Thanks for the correction on the special order Aegean Aqua.....must've confused it with the Peruvian Silver on my 68 H/O (gettin old I guess).

Too bad about breaking the car up too.....I guess if you need the money, you need the money, and it's your car.

Shame.

If the ow trans is original to the car and the vin is stamped on it as it should be, this alone is 90% proof positive that it is the real deal. Docs or no Docs, then the rest of the w30 stuff should not be separated as everyone suggested. The date codes on the heads and intake can also help verify this. Sounds like a ploy to sell the car, before it is parted. Sounds like a guy a met last week who wanted to sell only a whole garage full of olds parts, would not sell them separate unless i gave big money for everything. He continued to say if someone did not buy the whole lot he would rather throw it in the dumpster.

I personally met Dan Ethen and Dan Curtis, when they came to my place in 2009.Very nice guys and straightforward.Dan was just starting the work on the Aqua car, when he was here,so it's nice to see it finally come together. That price is very fair for what is there, and what is done.

The problem is anyone looking to purchase this fine car does not know what is there from what is posted here. For example the ow trans apparently is numbers matching If it matches the vin / eng vin I think it will get the 34k range of offers wanted.

Seems very fair, you couldn't buy a wreck of a W30 and fix it for that price. Again it could be a combo of the economy and lack of marketing. Three years ago I'd be thinking twice about buying this car, its a color I love and all the work is done, not perfect but I'm into driving my cars not trying to score 1000 points so this would be perfect for me. I'm sure 98% of the car folks are holding onto their money, the other two percent are either spending less than 15k or buying the 450k ZL1 Chevy's at BJ

Car just needs to be "marketed better". I'm sorry, but a well done 442 with that color should be able to get $30K+ even in todays market for the right buyer. Let alone a likely W30.

Find a project and restore it to this level for less.......not even close.

Unless this thing has been put on the Bay or in Hemmings or that other Olds site, so far there are 5 small pictures on this site and a thread with 8 or 10 Olds nuts, debating it's heritage.

Not exactly reaching millions......

I wish I was between cars, I'd take a real hard look at it.

Tell your friend to get about a hundred high quality pictures that show the true quality of the car (good or bad) and get it on/in one or more of the sites mentioned above. You might not sell it there, but the people with money that are looking will see it.

If the car is well done, he'll get that kind of money for it. I'd buy the car as a W30 with the trans as enough evidence (assuming the tag looked un-touched) because I want the car to enjoy. If I was so worried about flipping or making money, I'd look for a while more for a more documented example. I'd still maybe buy it if it's really well done.

I'd venture to say that most W30's in the general publics hands have no documentation whatsoever (by a large margin). And as the ones with papers are found they are finding their way into the collections or used as investments.

Us regular folks should try to enjoy these cars while it's still OK to do so.......

It's a W30, someone needs to go make sure it's nice and take it home before it's parted out by a desperate owner......

Wish I had the money too.....
