Why? Its a nice car - stripe is completely wrong and it should have argent wheels, but it's a nice looking car. Don't care for the color matched engine though. If you're interested in the car, send the guy a message and ask questions. Post the results here. The ad doesn't show a lot of details about the car, but IF it is a complete resto inside and out it could easily be worth 12k.

I wouldn't think it's a scam, if he was asking $4000 then it's a scam

That color mached D headed engine could be a 455. I can see your thinking and yes it hurts to think that a 68 442 if it is real and in that nice of shape has to bee more money than this. Heads are worth 2,800 to 3,800 alone.

Yea, seems priced way too cheaply to be the real deal but maybe the interior and floors are in bad shape. Most of the 442's that I've seen are $20k and up. Don't care for the engine color either but at least it's clean.

I noticed that the stripe doesn't look right...what is it about it that's wrong?

I sent an email so I'll let you know what I find out.

The car looks like a "restored" just defined by the owner. Not really restored. It appears to me to be a driver that still needs some work. So $12,000 does not seem out of line to me. A really nice restored 68 would still probably not make 20k in the bad market. I if you looked at the car you would just see driver quality work.

Why doesn't someone who lives near by give him a call??? I think leepear is right, it's probably a very nice driver! I'd be willing to bet that he has more in it than he is asking! Or her!

Problem with those stripes in on '68 that came with them from the factory, the "4 4 2" lettering was located in a different spot (i.e. further back towards the doors). So people come along and think it would be cool to put stripes on their car that never had them and naturally line them up with the letters and...d'oh!

As for being underpriced, hard to say that without looking at it first. I would think an automatic '68 442 with say the wrong engine and so-so cosmetics could easily be worth less than $12K, maybe much less, esp. in the current "climate".

As for the calling it a scam, I'd say that's unwarranted. Forums rules clearly state that you need to have at least 50 posts to your username before calling out scams with no good reason.

Those are C heads, look like Ds till you blow up the photo (which the ad site allows just by placing your mouse over it).

There have been scams with 69 and 70 442's lately on Classic Auto Trader. The pictures were taken from somebody on eBay. These were clearly $30k or $40k cars but were listed for $10,000. There's also the infamous green 70 442 that's been on CL for years...always priced around $3400. That one is a scam for sure. The guy wanted to ship the car to me after I paid half the price up front. I wouldn't have to pay the other half untill I got the car and liked it. Yea, right.

I just don't see '68 442's with no rust and a rebuilt engine for anything near $12k. I'm used to seeing much higher prices for cars like this. I guess this one could be needing a lot of interior or drivetrain work.....sure looks nice though.

I don't think this looks too far out of whack. Its not a body off restored car.
Maybe the guy doesn't want to eff around & priced it to move.
