1970 442 2door hardtop #matching 4speed ac car
I am selling my 70 442 it needs a total restoration, it is not running, but it is numbers matching motor, 4 speed with A/C, bucket seats console, 3;91 12 bolt rear, original color is the bark green with black interior and black vinyl top, and a ram air hood, a lot of new parts go with the car, most everything is there, the car has some rust ,but not real bad, the trunk floor is rust free, the front floors have pin holes, and the quarters have very little rust, around the rear window has no rust, the front windshield has some rust in bottom corners, overall the car is a great car to start with, I have owned the car for about 10 years and am never going to get to it just to busy. the car is in Titusville, Florida, asking price is $6800.00

Just curious, do you have a photo of the build sheet? Wanted to see what transmission and factory rear axle ratio was installed by the factory, since a '70 442 with a 4-speed and A/C was not suppose to built, according to the sales literature.

The only stick & A/C combination available on the '70 442 would be with the standard manual 3-speed and 3.23 gears.
Reportedly, a dealer would need to push the Zone Manager to place a Special Order if the customer insisted on their 442 having a 4-speed and air conditioning. I have only seen one '70 442 with this combination and a few more on this site and eBay.
According to a '70 442 build sheet, the factory used the M-21 and 3.23 gears with the A/C option.
I had always thought the factory replaced the M-21 with an M-20 when A/C was optioned, so as to be compatible with the 3.23 gears. Or simply made an exception and used the 3.42 gears with A/C, not unlike Buick.

Often wondered why Oldsmobile did not swap the M-21 for an M-20 to use with the 3.23 gears when A/C was installed, but I guess the engineers determined it best to simply leave the M-21 and allow the 3.23 gears. I guess Oldsmobile was serious about keeping the RPM's low with the A/C, otherwise could had simply used the 3.42 gears with the M-21.
Always thought it odd that Buick and Pontiac offered A/C with higher (numerically) then 3.23 gears, but then again they might have required their 15" wheel option with that combination to offset the higher gears. Interesting to find out if that is true.
