1963 Cutlass F-85
Up for sale is a 1963 Cutlass F-85. I have owned the car for about 3 months. It has always been a California car and was owned by one person until it changed owners a couple times a few years back before I got. Car is mostly stock and was told the motor and tranny were rebuilt at about 70k miles It now has 105k.
215 4 barrel with edelbrock carb
new cap, rotor and points
new battery
radiator re-cored
The car runs and drives great, however the transmission unfortunately has a hiccup when the car gets hot at times. It shifts great through all 3 gears but once the car gets hot 3rd gear can slip. Not sure if it is potentially a band adjusment or something that can be remedied without much trouble. The fact that the the transmission is capable of working properly makes me think its not a major rebuild issue. As much as I would like to look into fixing it, I no longer have the space or time to work/own this car. I have another full restoration in process that I need to focus on. I have also scene/heard about adapting a turbo 350 behind the 215 which is a far superior transmission.
Other than the transmission issue the car runs and drives great. Some of the passenger front fender and hood are sprayed with another shade of white primer or paint as well as some areas around the windshield. There is some rust in the rear of the trunk through the floor and I will post some pictures of that. That is the only major rust issue I have found.
Feel free to ask any questions or request pictures. Please Private message any offers.
Car has clean title and comes with extra grill and couple sets of tailights plus some misc other parts
I am asking $6500 obo

That's a sharp-looking car and easily worth your asking price, except for the transmission problem. I think that's what's holding back interest. You're speculating that it's an easy fix that won't require a rebuild, but you really don't know this, so you're asking any buyer to roll the dice when it comes to what this car might ultimately cost to get running and driving right. That's a lot to ask and a reason why the bidding might not have gotten as high as you would have liked in your ebay auction.
You would probably help yourself by having the transmission looked at by a competent shop, even if you don't ultimately have it repaired, just so you'll know, and any buyer would know, exactly what the problem is. Otherwise, you'll likely have to end up settling for something in the price range of what the auction ended at.

90% of the problems with these transmissions is the T.V. linkage adjustment. Try to shorten it 2 turns at a time to see if that fixes it. Also, there is a band adjustment located just under the filter. Very easy to do, you should consult the manual thou. Fatsco transmission parts has all the gaskets and filters for these Roto-5 hydramatics.
