What to use on OLD car
I remember a post a year or so back on a guy that had found an original paint Olds from the 20s and cleaned it up using something I guess old motorcycles get cleaned with to preserve the patina? Does anyone know what this is? I'm trying to preserve the finish on my 19 but don't want to jack it up. Any ideas? Thanks

There is a oil type substance that is used to enhance aged old car paint and for the life of me I can't remember the name of said product but if you post this question on the AACA forum someone much smarter and with a better memory than me will undoubtedly have a answer for you.... lost in the fifties ...Tedd

I was watching CCC and they had a 21 Stutz and the guy used a "metal protectant" to clean up the finish without messing up the patina. I guess its some kind of cleaner for the bare spots on the body. Does this trip any triggers?

Deaddds, The product may have been Penetrol manufactured by the flood company. As I remember it was a wipe on wipe off process which would remove oxidation and protect and stop rust in any areas that had lost all the paint. I think it was applied with very fine steel wool.I'm not sure that is the product you are looking for but I believe that is what was used on the restoration of a antique motorcycle. There must be a youtube of it but I couldn't find it..... Tedd

I did get a message back from the guy that refurbished the Stutz on CCC and he used Gibbs metal wash. I will try it first. Figure if he will use it on a 6 plus figure car, I will try it on mine. Thanks for all the input.
