What is this strange little thing ?
Hi,
I have a Oldsmobile Cutlass '71 surpreme.
When I got the front window out, I saw a lot of rust.
Not that much, but some little holes.
I wanted to fix them with good filler.
The only problem I have, is that I can repair everything...but cannot rebuild a strange little ..eh..something.
It's a small bended metal lid, in front of the window. There are 4 of them.
Nobody knows what function these things have.
1 is rusted off, so I have 3 left...but is that enough ?
I add a picture of it (it's a picture while having the windshield molding off)
Hope somebody reconizes it!
Greetings
rob

Really ? ..only for installation
Would that be the answer? I can't imagine that they would do that.
But I hope it is, so I do'n have to rebuild that little thing.
Also, the cowl panel is getting over it, nobody sees anything.
Thanks, I hope you're right!

These windshield support clips are fastened to the cowl by sheet metal screws, so you can just replace them.

No,
The ones I mention are different, they are molded and part of that cowl.
But I know which ones you mean.
There are 2 of them and can be screwed off.
I already did that before removing the windscreen.
But thanks all for replying
cool

Hi,
The welder said, that he could fix it, but then the dashboard has to get out.
I tried the dashboard, but it's a hell of a job.
Also, the rust isn't that much. 3 holes..no more.
I decided to:
-clean te holes from rust so far as I can (polish and degrease)
-put "fertan" on it (pulverises rust and leaves an inert layer of metal ready for painting)
-Also some "Tectyl ML (white)" anti rust stuff
-A great filler called "Debrasel ALsi 12"
-polish and paint
I think that will do the job

Those are simply the clips that locate the windshield during installation. They are necessary because the urethane that bonds the windshield to the frame can sag over time from the weight of the glass, so you DO need them after windshield installation. These are not the clips for the stainless trim, especially since the bottom trim on the windshield is held with screws, not clips.
