Drum to Disc brake conversion for 69 olds 442 conv.
I'm slowly underway with a frame off restoration of a 69 442 conv. This car is not a "by the numbers" restoration. I've got the makings of a fairly potent 455 hooked up to a stock TH-400 and a 12 bolt 3.23:1 and an add on anti spin. The car has a good set of rebuilt power drums all around, but since, I am rebuilding with the frame off.... I might as well upgrade at least the front power drums to power discs.... what is the best kit out there quality wise/cost wise for mostly a street machine? I see Summit has their own brand kit, and I see a USA made SSBC conversion for the A bodies. Anyone have any experience with conversions and these particular conversion kits? I figure I can add on the rear discs after the car is together w/o any real problems.... if I need more stopping power. I understand my current drum spindles may require removing some metal from the mounting surface that supports the disc assembly... I figure the origional forged factory spindles are probably stronger than some kit spindles out there. I am going to use the 15" Cragars that are on the car.
