Hi folks,
Have a convertible top question. We're putting things back together now looking good cant wait to show pics but I have a concern. When lowering the top I noticed that there is a lot of air going through the top lines and at some point on the way down I see no fluid going through the lines and of course the tops slooooooowly goes down. I stop trying to put it down so I don't burn out the motor.

My question is this. I had someone replace the hoses and so I know there is tons of air in the line. I've looked at the cryptic Fisher manual and does anyone have a easier way to FILL and PRIME the lines! OR do you have a craftier way of creating the hose that needs to be put into the motor. Looking for ideas as i want to do this next week.

Help would be greatful.

I remember reading that part of the manual when I broke a hydraulic line while working on the interior. I was confused.


Ultimately, I added fluid using some clear tubing and one of those colored ketchup/mustard squeeze bottles that my wife bought for parties. I didn't make the fancy plug the manual calls for.


I simply don't recall whether the air bubbles worked themselves out or not. But the top works, well except for the holes in it!

I disconnected the cylinders from the top frame, run them in and out and checked the fluid often as I did this. (they did not extend the same rate, one opened before the other) Used a squirt oil can to fill. Then as I saw less air, I hooked them back up and and did the same thing. Eventually I saw little air in the lines, topped it off and left it. I believe Hydro-E-lectric had instructions on line.

So what is the recommended fluid? ATF?

Yes, ATF works. I had to replace a cylinder last year. I used the Hdro-Electric instructions and they worked fine.

67 - Down uses brake fluid

If pump and cylinders are replaced ATF can be used. I would think if all is removed you could flush out the brake fluid and replace with ATF, but don't know for sure.

My new pump and hydraulics specifically said brake fluid would work but void lifetime warranty.
