Carb. interchange

I have a "new" rebuilt 4 barrel Rochester Qjet correct for a 1976 350 Cutlass. My 1970 Olds 98 455 needs a carb. Can I use this on my 98? I've noticed the Vac. break assembly is different. Thanks.
Tom

You can use it but it won't be jetted properly. On the other hand, it's a testament to the Qjet that the engine will probably run acceptably.

OK. Thanks Joe. I'll get the correct carb. Just trying to save a few bucks but if it won't run the way it should then I'll wait.

It will run OK for most uses (I've done this). You can change the metering rods later if needed.

Metering rods cost less than $5.00 new from Summit.

other major differences include:
primary jets
power piston spring
secondary metering rods
fast idle cam
choke stat and coil opening rate
air bleeds and passage restrictions
accelerator pump squirt volume
air valve spring wrap
and most of the set up adjustments

yes it may "work", but likely, not very well compared to the carb. that should be on top of that '70 455.
