455 BRACKET ENGINE FOR THE STREET

I have a friend willing to sell me his bracket/street engine ...it is a 69 455 with C heads...the bottom end has been done with oil restrictors and it is using a w30 cam with rhodes lifters...stock pistons and heads....would this be suitable for strictly street driving...or am I better off redoing my own engine to stock specs...he wants 3200.00 and it has 10k since a rebuild...it has been raced a couple of times but otherwise used for towing...what do you guys think

Only you can really know what condition the engine is in but if you can see it running, listen to it, even drive the vehicle it is in now that should help you out. An engine with 10,000 miles on it is not new and you could do a fine job of rebuilding the engine you presently own with that $3200. Towing????

I agree, 3200 is a lot of money for a used engine. If you build it yourself or with a reliable engine builder you know what you have. Cheaper and more reliable in the long run.

My 455 was $2400 back to stock. Balanced and everyting from a local Pro. That even encluded port matching the new w/z exhoust. Let us know how much it runs in your area.
