Engine Rebuild Kit

Where would you guys suggest getting a 455 rebuild kit from? I'm looking to build the motor up to 450-500 hp.

Mondello? Kanter?

See what your machinist recommends as he may have a favorite supplier, I have used Summit before and got good results.

keep the hell away from mondello.Unless you absolutely HATE your money. Used to be a good place. Now it's just sad. Your goal for hp should be easy to accomplish. I assume your going to have the engine bored so you can bump up the compression with the new pistons. 9 to 9.5 :1 is a nice place to be with cast iron heads. Upgrade the cam, exhaust, possibly the intake -nice place to save a lot of weight- and there you go. What heads do you plan to use? hopefully older ones. c's,e's,g's . Good luck.

Lots of hidden benefits when you buy from your local machine shop. One that is not hidden is: They will assemble a "kit" (including the crank and pistons) to suit your own individual needs.

Not what one usually gets, with "one size fits all" generic kits from "mail order" suppliers.

I like ordering from Summit. They have good prices and good customer service. I think you can get a rebuild kit from them with the TRW L2323F pistons which are forged. They seem to be a pretty good aftermarket piston.

rebuild kits

Just about all the aftermarket mail order companies can put together a kit to achieve the horsepower you want, summit, jegs, dick miller, mondello, paw. I've found if you want specific info call dick miller or mondello they deal with nothing but oldsmobile and are very knowledgable or you can always do the research yourself and buy the parts individually. There are several dyno programs available that will help you experiment before you invest in the parts to get the hp and tq you want. There are also alot of hidden benefits from your local machine shop also as 88 coupe mentioned, I once bought a 350 chevy short block 4 bolt main .030 over with cam and lifter for under 900 brand new freshly machined.

Avoid Mondello`s like the plaig. Dick Miller is a ok guy, but be carefull. They don`t call him Tricky Dick for nothing. Research the parts you want. Sometimes your machinest`s deal is not such a deal. If you posted where you are from, we might be able to suggest an Olds specfic vender that could help you decide what combo you want or possibly build it for you.
